Frame respray
I'm thinking of getting my 1991 steel Trek mountain bike frame & forks resprayed.
Any suggestions?
I already know about Bournes Powder Coating - anyone actually used them? What sort of finish does powder coating produce on bikes?
I have used Mike Kowal in the past but can not find any contact details and I think he might have moved.

The technology has probably improved since I last had anything stove enamelled. I recall that the powder coat could be prone to being slightly uneven, whereas the sprayed enamels gave a better finish.
I'd suggest you ask to see some examples of their work to ensure that you get a finish you're after. Also ask them what they do to prepare, e.g. Shot-blasting, degreasing.

I've had a few frames done at Bournes, all with excellent results. I had one, a Peugeot tandem frame finished in metallic red which was barely distinguishable from a stoved finish. They usually have a few bike and motorbike frames waiting for collection so you could pop in to have a look see. I haven't been for a few years but they were always very friendly.
I think Tony Webb may know how to contact Mike Kowal if you pm or ring him.

I was given the following number for Mike Kowal about 18 months ago by Peter Varian who races for Red Kite Cycles. Aparently his wife does all the spraying now..........makes a damn good job of it as well. I've seen quite a few of the track frames that she's done.....really good. Give the No a try.

Though they would of course do a top job, i fear i would be paying far more for that than i will be for the powder coating at Bournes!AlanW wrote:Mercian Cycles maybe?

I decided to get it done at Bournes and they have done a nice job for just £35.
Unfortunately, during the process the fork and frames got separated and only the frame had been finished when I went to collect today. So, if there is anyone out there could pick up the forks in the week and move them towards Bromsgrove it would save me a trip into Brum next Saturday.
