Garmin Communicator

Anyone else had problems downloading the Garmin communicator plug in?

For some reason I've not been able to successfully download the plug in and hence the lap top can't communicate with the gps unit...

Ian,

No problems here.

But just a thought go to the Garmin website and see if there are any updates for your unit, if there are, download them and then try it again.

PS
I assume that you have registered the unit, but to be fair I dont know if that makes any difference or not?

hi ian.
assuming you've already managed to download & install the communicator plug in you could try making sure you've got windows media player 11 installed & allow the active-X control if the bar at the top of your browser requests it. after i did all this it worked fine
if you're still having problems try faq's at
http://www8.garmin.com/products/communicator/faq.jsp

however if its a problem downloading the communicator plug in itself i managed to download it from garmin site at
http://www8.garmin.com/support/download ... sp?id=3607
i've just tried this download link & it does work.
best of luck

Thanks guys, after much toing and froing on 2 different lap tops I've now got communicator on one of them. However, it is not recognising the gps unit as yet so it may be a prolem with the unit.

Pat, I'm using Windows Vista as the operating system.

ian. you say it's not recognizing your gps unit - when you plug it in does your computer recognize it as a connected device? windows should recognize it as an external drive. if not try another usb cable - they may all have same type of connector but they don't all have same wires connected.

Or use strava.com which doesn't need a plugin - but still needs the USB drivers to be working.

Go to device manager and see if there is a yellow triange on the GPS device, if so you can try clicking update driver.

Which Garmin do you have Ian ?

now fairly sure it's an issue with the unit, downloaded communicator onto lap top using windows 7 with no issues but still not recognising the unit at all, as any kind of driver. It's a 705, which I've borrowed to see how I get on with it (not brilliantly thus far!).

Thanks for all the help and constructive comments.
