Beacon logo revamp
guys to pass the time and to give me a bit of practise in my new college course ill revamp the club logo, it will remain exactly the same but it will be sparkling in 1080p with shadows and slight 3d effect, including ambient occlusion, and a environmental effect e.g. different lighting effects, and force effects such as impact and explosion also i may add sillowettes of cyclists in the background I tell you once ive revamped you will be going WOW i can guarantee ive done so much work with this software it should be a piece of cake!
ill upload several different versions and hopefully they may even get put on the website,
Give us your thoughts and opinions about them.

You might want to have a read of this thread before suggesting anything (providing you've got an hour or three to spare!).
Yes i know you have to stick to certain colours and that but it doesn't matter any way it just gives me something to copy and and try to reproduce it at a higher quality it doesn't matter if it dont get put on the website its just practice for me for future work if ive ever go into this industry and its a base to work on

Looking forward to see what you come up with Harry.
I'm not sure how much appetite there will be to changing the design of the
logo (I wouldn't be surprised if it dates back to 1946) but, even if the design remains the same, it would be good to have a nice crisp, sharp, hi-res version with a better font for the "BEACON" and avoiding mixed fonts.

Its a bloody pain to remodel the banner so can someone post the high res version of the beacon logo as a image and then i can crop the banner out and paste it into the newer version and then remodel it from their but so far the new logo looks brilliant and its half done!

The logo is 2/3 complete well v1.0 is, font can be modified easily and also the wings may have to be redone as they are not fully round yet just need a high res version beacon logo cus the one on the message board is low quality so tracing round may have been inaccurate, the green and the red colour is slightly arcady but that can be modified, currently have to model the arch on top of the beacon and then model it into 3d standard ALMOST THERE ITS ONLY MONDAY AS WELL

Update - All gold embroidery is being replaced by a gold plate im not sure whether to give it a pattern yet or even stick back to embroidery which would be quite tricky and may just look like a birds nest because the detail is going to be shown on a big scale so the minor things have to be addressed!
Also the arches above the title will be glowing against the reflective black backing they are in front of this will make the logo STAND OUT, also I might give them a Matt white paint so they reflect against the glossy black paint and i may change the lighting to give it a shadow Also any font recomendations for the 'roads cycling club' go into word and experiment and post away !!

Update - Wings have fully been redone and look almost identical, thanks to Steve smith and the hi res beacon logo pic, edges have now been addressed with a gold color as it is in the real beacon logo, i have applied this to the wings as well and now there is one more thing to do which is to do the tedious job of tracing the arches above the wings and then leveling them out at the same height as the wings and apply white paint to em!!!
So far the logo just needs a few more colour adjustments to get an 'emerald green'and a brighter white for the wings and text. And finally level everything out so its all even and then its DONE!

I think it's great that the club has young, energetic members willing to put time and effort into a project like this. I therefore feel very uncomfortable about making any kind of negative response. Nevertheless, I feel compelled to put a stick in the wheel.
The Beacon badge is an integral part of the club's identity and heritage. It isn't something that an individual member or a handful of members should be able to arbitrarily change without any evidence that there's a general desire for change in the membership at large.
While I can see that it's a interesting and educationally useful project for Harry, I can't recall reading or hearing anything to suggest that there is a genuine wish or need for change. Have I missed something?

Agree with you George. committee meeting on Monday. The CTC's switch from the historic winged wheel to the current lazy bike took years of aggro which still stirs controversy - in fact we had to sort of keep both and two jerseys. Wheel logos are retro chic or historic e.g. League of American Wheelmen.
Logo wars are a whole chapter of cultural sociology. Uni of Bham kept its crest alongside tedious modernist U of B thing. BCU by passed heraldry by nicking a design off the previous Director/VC's PA's secretarial certificate from the College of Commerce.

That's how I saw it Harry which is why I didn't discourage you. I thought a hi-res cleaned up replica of the current logo might be useful to the club, a slightly modified version might be useful to consider, and an imaginative concept might be an interesting exercise for you. Going through the pain of coming up with something that a fussy client is happy with will be a relevant learning exercise and if you can please a disparate group of odd balls such as one finds in a cycling club you can crack anything.
