Damaged spokes

Post by slogfester » 21 Jul 2014 10:48

Another dumb Q from resident ham-fisted mechanic.
Have been given some 2nd hand wheels for Jules' bike. The spokes have suffered some damage when (it looks like) the chain came off. Significant? Need fixing before re-assembly? (You might need to look at original pic on flickr to zoom in on spokes for proper look)
Thanks

This happened on a second hand bike I bought but didnt notice untill I got home. I didnt bother replacing them but one by one they all broke. Well I think there is still one that has survived. Probably best putting sone new ones in....

If the rims are still good, then replace all the damaged spokes, you will need a truing stand, if the rims are done for or nearly done for then a rebuild is in order.

Those spokes will break and they will invariably go in the pouring rain ,miles from home with your phone having a flat battery.
