Anyone else find putting holes in your Beacon kit an annoying experience when pinning numbers on at races/events?
It's £100 for 50 packs. Would there be 25 of us willing to pay £4 for two packs of these each in Beacon branding/colours? Or 12 of us willing to pay £8.30?
Or are they just not cool?!?

Holes in expensive kit not cool, these seem a great idea. I'm going to order a single unbranded set first though Tim to see if they are any good.

I've now looked at the web site & ordered a set of unbranded ones, look like saviour for expensive kit. If these really are that good & don't damge clothing at all maybe we could help fulfill minimum order by buying extra & sell them on when people sign on at Little Mountain Time Trial & club 10 Time trial.

Also look at Racedots. I got some by crowdfunding them when they started up, and have ued them on some TT's . They seem like a good option and are nice and strong too.

I haven't used them in a race yet Tim, they seem secure enough & would be simple enough to use with a normal cycling shirt - not sure about a skinsuit though.

Ok thanks.
So order would be £99.50. So would need 25 of us willing to pay £3.98 for these in Beacon colours (would get you two packs to pin two numbers on).
Who's interested?

What happened to the racedots, James?
I'm still a bit sceptical that these are going to work, but for that price I'll give them a go.

If they don't work, you have a nice set of little badges to wear on your shirt when teaching, Laurence. Win-win situation, really.

Here is a suggestion. Paint the rear of your jersey with blackboard paint. The number can then be chalked onto the fabric. QED, no need for pins.
I'll get my coat.

I'm going to patent a bluetooth-enabled jersey with an LED array embedded in the fabric. You set the number from your smartphone and/or Garmin.

Blackboard paint and led array sound heavy?!

I'm going to propose numbering in binary so we'd only need, say, 8 leds across the jersey. That should weigh less than number and safety pins.

There are only 10 kinds of people - those who understand binary, and those who don't.

Of course, superstitious riders who draw 00001101 might want to wear it as 10110000.

Priceless!
More seriously, looking into the future, surely no one will need numbers at all, whether pinned, dotted, chalked or illuminated in fairy lights: timing will be by means of chip recognition... or by logging your Garmin/GPS enabled phone on to some web app monitored by the 'timekeeper'. In ten to twenty years, I bet numbers will evoke a similar response to alpaca jackets.

Surely everyone will have an ID chip implanted at birth, and this will be automatically scanned at start and finish.
The more pessimistic forecast is that there won't be any time trials - they will be banned on A roads and all other roads will be in too poor a condition. Maybe then we will be dodging the law by racing at dawn on the A roads, in our alpaca jackets.
