Mavic Cosmic Carbones - Valve Length?

Post by AlanW » 16 Mar 2015 17:42

I am considering getting a pair of the 52mm Cosmic Carbone wheels, but quick question to those they have them or have had them, what length valve is the most suitable?

I'm taking a guess that 60mm will be a bit short and 80mm far to long? Or is standard length valves together with valve extenders an option?

Cheers Craig, quick response!! Plus, a double bonus is that I have just looked and I have two brand new Conti Supersonic tubes with 60mm valves in my garage already.....

60mm are fine Al but I currently have 45mm in mine & I just carry valve extenders should I get a flat.

Yep 60mm conti tubes are fine. The valve hole can be fairly large and the valve stem rattle a bit, so I always used the threaded 'nut' that comes on most tubes to clamp it down a touch, just to stop the noise.

Wheels arrived, and 60mm Supersonic tubes fitted but I cannot get my track pump onto the valve as there isnt enough of the valve protruding. My Lezyne frame pump fits the valve okay, but I have no idea how much pressure is in the tube?

I don't know about the mavic carbon 50mm wheels but I use 60mm conti supersonic tubes with my Shimano 50mm wheels, there's about 12mm of the threaded part of presta valve sticking out beyond rim - I use threaded connector on Lezyne track pump which works no problem.

My track pump is a Specialized one and to be fair the pump head is quite large, which is clearly the problem - HERE I wonder if you can get some sort of adaptor that screws on like the Lezyne does but has Presta style at the other end that would push into a track pump head?

I don't know about that cobmi Alan (sounds a bit like a simple valve extender) but I know you can get a screw on brass adaptor for attaching a pump head with a lock on Schraeder fitting to a threaded presta valve if that helps. I've got one if that's any good & you want to try it. Much cheaper than forking out for a new track pump.
