Pedal/Cleat Advice

Post by John » 16 Apr 2015 10:07

I've seemingly developed a bit of an issue with my left pedal and I'm not sure of the cause. Essentially when riding I occasionally am pulling out of the pedal as my leg comes backwards and up, this has happened in a criterium (very scary) and repeatedly over the last 2 days commuting.

Now is the issue one with the spring in the pedal being not tight enough? Or do I simply just need a new pair of cleats?

Cheers,

John

Is that the foot you usually clip in and one with? Sounds like either the cleat or the pedal mechanism has worn out. I've got a similar issue with the right pedal on my winter bike. My foot's never come unclipped whilst pedalling but clipping in and out is easier than it should be, and no amount of adjusting the tension has made a difference so I presume I just need a new pedal.

It is that side yes. Maybe new cleats might help?

I'll see how much I can tighten up the pedal tonight with an allen key that isn't rounded off!

It could be either, but if you buy new pedals, then cleats usually get included in the package, so that would be my choice...buy new pedals.

Tightened it up (it was super loose) and seems to have solved the issue.

I'd tightened it up prior to one of the Mamil crits and I think it just came loose again - why this is the case I'm not exactly sure though.

How do you know that it was twenty-one years ago this week, Oscar?
