Been using durano plus for last couple of years and shredded one today whilst out up north. Wondered if anyone recommends any other tyre for road bike?

Some very good options listed, but the question must be what are your expectations, what is it that you want from your tyre?

Is it for all year round, or just for the summer?

Do you want a fast tyre or a long lasting tyre?

My two pence worth based on personal experiance:-

Vittoria Open Corsa tyres, truly epic summer/racing tyres, but it comes as a cost, ie they do tend to wear quite quickly.

Michelin Pro 4 Endurance tyres, I've being using these on my "audax" bike for a couple of years and simply cannot fault them, from any aspect at all to be honest.

Continental 4000S tyres, I used to be a fan of these and still run a pair on a pair of summer wheels. However, I have suffered two sidewall blow outs in as many months and if you Google it, it would seem that its not to be a uncommon problem?

Vittoria Open Pave tyres, my number one tyre of choice for the winter months, great hard wearing tyre that offers a huge amount of grip. Nothing wrong with using them all year round I guess, but why?

Continental 4 Season tyres, before I switched to Vittoria Open Pave, I used these for the winter months. Good winter tyres, but the Open Pave are better IMHO.

.
I would say the reason to use them all year round is that the sidewalls are seriously more resistant to awful roads (winter or summer ).
If you always ride on tarmac, race or are willing to risk a damaged sidewall then the slightly faster running and marginally better cornering of the Corsa's are worth changing to in the summer.
If you like a bit of challenging surfaces then of all the different tyres I have used over the years the Paves are just so good. Roll and corner like the race tyre they are but comfort like a touring tyre. Do loose some of the initial grip quite quickly but even then are better than most. Worth every penny.
