My work has just joined the cycle to work scheme, and after reading all the small print it appears I can purchase componants...

I'm looking to get new wheels and groupset for my roubaix, but have a couple of questions...

Will I be able to change from my current set up, which is a triple, to a compact easily?

Also, it's a specialized bike, which has an fsr BB30 bottom bracket. Will I need a conversion kit for the ultegra 6800 BB-R60?

To go from triple to compact you will need to replace everything, shifters, mechs and probably cables, but if you buy a groupset whole (as in a kit where everything is included in one price) , then all you need to worry about if fitting it all. New bartape will probably be needed as stripping off old stuff tends to make it unusable and can look naff.

As for the BB, shimano use 24mm axels so you will need a new BB. A quick google revels that there are many options depending upon the yr of your Roubaix. Best get some advice at a shop as I think they are also pressfit which requires a specialist tool. Good news is The BB's are not expensive.

You will probably need the new wheels anyway if you're going from a 10-speed to 11-speed cassette.

The conversion kits replace the bottom bracket, I think. The alternative would be to sell the Shimano chainset that comes with the groupset and buy a BB30 one. There are lots of options: FSA, Rotor, SRAM, etc.

You can also look at EDCO monoblocks which are 11s but work on 10s hubs. I use one for my disc wheel on the TT bike and it works flawlessly. They are expensive (£160), but cheaper than buying a new wheelset just to go to 11s. They come in a range of gearing options. I bought mine here:

My current bike has bb30 bearings in and I run a standard ultegra chainset. I have used the below adaptors for nearly 2 years now and had no problems with them.

Thanks all. It's a 2014 roubaix and the groupset comes with a new bb.
