Help please on GPX and Garmin

Post by Simon Dighton » 02 Aug 2016 09:28

I have been sent some gpx routes via e-mail. What is the best way of getting them on the PC and then downloading to the Garmin please.

To put a gpx file and create a route (or course as Garmin call them ) on a Garmin Edge unit place the gpx file in the New Files folder on the Garmin. When you restart the unit a course will be created.
To view a gpx file on you computer you would need mapping software and a map. Garmins Basecamp is free just Google it. Maps from various sources also free just Google talky toaster for instructions.
Otherwise gpx files can be viewed using on line services such as Gpsies or Map my Ride again Google is your friend.

Like Pete says. Detach the files from the e-mail. Plug in the Garmin and copy the GPX files into the Garmin/NewFiles folder. When you unplug the Garmin, your Courses will be created automatically.

GPS Track Editor (free) is good for viewing GPX files.
