Weekly Club Update and Club runs for the weekend of 15th May

Post by WorcsPhil » 09 May 2022 11:10

WEEKLY UPDATE:

So good to see 30 plus riders out on Sunday on the five club runs...huge thanks to Stuart, Mariana, Paul B, Noel and Cedric for leading again. It's clear that many of us are training for longer rides this summer, and using club runs for this training, hence, we had 16 out on Stuart's fantastic ride to the golf ball at the top of Clee Hill - the best party in town! Stuart, like many others are riding Philip Whiteman's 'Skivers Day Out' Audax on Friday 20th May, so hill routes are in fashion right now. If you've not seen this 'Skivers' ride, check it out on the Audax UK website.

Philip Whiteman also has a number of permanent audaxes (meaning you can ride them any time), and the pinnacle of these is the Elenydd 300kms audax from Hartlebury to Tregaron (near Aberystwyth) and back over the Devil's Staircase and 26 other hills! Me, Nick Shenton, Andy Wrightson and John Williams rode this last Thursday on a beautiful day, and it's a stunning but very f. tough ride... look out for the write up on the MB soon.

Great to see Cedric's ascending distance club rides also...they're now at 200kms and building towards a 300kms ride in June. This is a fantastic adventure, so why not put on your big boy/girl pants and join him now his rides are all over 200kms...a great Sunday day out every week!

We have a Beacon Time Trial week this week, and it's the 9mile course around Earlswood again...we had a few first timers at the last one, so why not give it a go again, or come along for the first time...it's the fastest you'll ride all year, as the adrenaline flows just that little bit faster when you have a number on your back.

That's it, many Beaconites are riding abroad or about to go soon, so be good to put your photos of the 75th anniversary jersey being worn in unusual places onto our Facebook page to enthuse/enrage other people....let's see where this trophy jersey has been ridden!

Keep happy, weather looks great for the next couple of weeks, so get your club runs down early - As well as the Tuesday evening club rides now being up and running, it's the Cyclists' remembrance event this Sunday in Meriden and there will be club rides out to there, so keep your eyes out and sign up.

Hi, I'd like to give Time Trial a try. What day is it, please.

It's tonight at 19:00 - details at http://beaconrcc.org.uk/club-time-trials-2022/. There's another one on the same course in two weeks' time if that's too short notice!
