Weekly club update and club runs for the week 16-22 May

Post by George » 16 May 2022 14:32

A wet start to Sunday failed to dampen the spirits of five intrepid club run groups. The A group rode a few swells on the way to Brewood and back in four-and-a-half hours. The ride was sadly marred by leader Nick taking a dive. Whether the incident was facilitated by any newly qualified first-aiders looking to put their skills to the test is a question that only Andy W can answer. Do take care, everyone. The weather may have limited the size of Phil G's B group, but the ride to Hillers was no damp squib. Meanwhile, Cedric kicked up some spray on the latest episode of his popular build-up to a planned C-pace 300km ride later in the summer. And Marianna piloted a second C group on a shorter ride to Charlecote. Finally, we had a D run out as well, with Dave Cole ensuring that the red, white and green made a splash at CTC's annual Meriden ceremony to honour cyclists who lost their lives in wars.

Sunday's club run activity rounded off a week that saw round 4 of this season's club TT series. The nine-mile race around two laps of the Earlswood circuit was won by Ed Moss, who made light of demanding conditions to blast round in 20:25, with Mark Roberts with and Celia Brown taking the other podium places. Celia is looking good for the handicap trophy and certainly the woman to beat just now.

Tuesday night club runs resumed at the start of the month and were in full swing last week, with four groups out.

Thanks to all the organisers, helpers and supporters!

UPCOMING

On Tuesday evening, another full set of club runs will depart from Northfield Cycles at 6:30pm. Rides last about two hours, at speeds to suit various fitness levels. See viewtopic.php?f=5&t=10039.

Are you retired or able to take time off in the week? Mariana is looking for company on Friday 20 May for a ride of 115km or so, starting at the Black Horse at 09:15 and going at about 22 to 23kph. See viewtopic.php?f=5&t=10041.

There's no club time trial this Wednesday, but we do have one coming up the Wednesday after. See http://beaconrcc.org.uk/club-time-trials-2022/.

We're expecting to have a full club run programme on Sunday 22 May. Plans for an adventurous C ride are in place and leaders are invited for A and B runs, and maybe for a shorter C run and/or a D run. If you've got any ideas, let's have them please! Let's all muck in and get a good selection of runs on the board as soon as possible, so that people have plenty of chance to pick one that suits. See viewforum.php?f=5.

The C run that's planned is the latest in Cedric's Big Build-up: a 226km circuit of Birmingham! All the nasty hills are tackled early, when everyone's fresh. The rest is a piece of cake. Or maybe even several pieces. Forecast average speed: 21-23kph. See viewtopic.php?f=5&t=10040.

Finally, Phil W is looking for volunteers to help with the next Beacon audax on Saturday 23 July. See viewtopic.php?f=1&t=10037&p=76200&hilit=audax#p76200.
