Weekly Club Update and Club runs for the weekend of 29th May

Post by WorcsPhil » 23 May 2022 16:45

WEEKLY UPDATE:

What an amazing weekend of cycling activity. Starting off with Philip Whiteman's 'Skiver's Day off' Audax on Friday which saw at least 5 Beacon riders riding into Wales and over the Gospel Pass, one of which, Mick Stanford rode another 200 on Saturday and also led a BC Guided Ride on Sunday under Beacon's name. Top marks to Mick for this weekend!

We then saw John Williams and Carina McGovern ride Mark Rigby's 600kms Audax on Saturday/Sunday, as well as the four club runs at the weekend with nearly 30 riders out, and led by Matt Hale, Paul Balfe, Cedric (of course!) and the aforementioned Mick...great work all. Not only that, Karl Walton, Luke Hutcheson and Andy Wrightson rode the 180kms Tour of the Peaks Sportive on Sunday up every hill in the North of England! Superb work and it shows that the Cycling season is now up and running on full steam (updating this metaphor to fully charged at a Tesla supercharging station soon!) :D . On the touring front, Helen Colson is soloing around in Sweden, and if your name is Simon, it is obviously compulsory to ride between Munich and Milan this week. Good luck to all

These BC Guided Rides are an excellent entry into the club. Mick has been on the Leaders course and is qualified to lead these specific rides. We have also negotiated THREE people to go on the next course, but unfortunately that's not until September...but watch out for more info, and it would be great if we have WILLING volunteers who will take this course and lead rides for the next generation of cyclists.

What else is going on?

1. Tuesday night club runs are up and running...there are a variety of groups all riding the same course at different speeds, so sign up for the one that suits you best

2. Wednesday night sees the next in the Beacon TT series, and this week, it's another 2-up on road bikes (solo riders also welcome!). It all starts at 7pm on the Earlswood course, but sign up in advance please and get there in good time!

3. Academy events are back...they start this Wednesday and for the next two Wednesdays after that at a new venue, Moseley School. Get your kids along and bikes can be provided. More details here:

4. Beacon RCC are hosting the British Schools Cycling Association Regional Grass Track Championships on Saturday 9 July, so let's help out and support Adrian and all the riders by going along and helping set up or run this prestigious event...details on the message board

5. Finally, it's the Beacon Track Championships at Halesowen track on Saturday 25th June. Anyone can enter, but you must have some track bike experience, but worry ye not, there are plenty of opportunities to get this, and again, these are outlined on the MB

That's it for this week, but if you want something publicising or just have a great picture/story, then let me know and I'll mention it here.

Enjoy the penultimate week of May and see you on the road soon.
