Weekly Club Update and Club runs for the week of 15th-21st August

WEEKLY UPDATE:

Well, it happened... London Edinburgh London (LEL) that is, and we had some weather!!... but I won't dwell on LEL much here as I'll write a more detailed review in the next week or two, but suffice to say it was an amazing experience, Beacon had seven riders out on the road and at least three people who volunteered at the controls along the way... a fantastic presence, and one that reflects our current love with stupidly long rides. It was a tough old journey with plenty of stories to tell, and an attempt on the '2022 British Magnum Eating Record' was attempted by yours truly...watch out for the report soon.

Hot weather dominated last week, but good to see club runs going out and thanks to leaders as usual, namely Dave Cole, Si Walker, Cedric, and leading the Intro ride, Mariana... Some discussion continues on what constitutes a club run and what is a social ride... and to summarise, the committee feels that from the start of July, only weekend and Tuesday evening rides will garner club run points...this is to simplify matters as these rides are largely accessible to all, and are easily distinguishable as insured Beacon club runs... Rides are encouraged on other days, and the MB is a good place to publicise them, but they are henceforth defined as social rides open to all... please don't take offence at this definition of club runs, you're out on your bike and riding with friends and that's what is important, after all. No club run points will be lost before July.

The touring trophy will be a good one to savour this year, with Michelle and Chris Thompson out again last week touring to Aberystwyth and Helen Colson heading east again, and the incomparable Claire Dignon spending the summer season out in the wilderness taking amazing photos...it's great when we get a touring community looking strong within Beacon...and it hasn't been this buoyant for years...expect to see some Beacon touring adventures publicised for 2023!

...and finally, huge congrats to Celia Brown, Beacon's flying TT'er, who posted a 2hrs 7mins 50mile TT ride in Colchester on Sunday...fab riding, Celia!

This week sees Tuesday evening rides continuing and a 10mile TT on Wednesday on a slightly longer Earlswood course... why not go along to these last few TT's of the season. By the way, a big thanks to George Lazenby for organising these TT's this year... great stuff, George!

Keep riding...and enjoy the cooler weather

Phil
