Weekly Club Update and Club runs for the weekend of 3rd/4th September

WEEKLY UPDATE:

Let's big up the Beacon Touring crew! As I've said before, there are loads of Beacon cycling tours going on this year, or are currently touring or having just finished - including Claire Dignon and her photographic tour of Slovenia (try to catch her pictures on FaceBook, they deserve their own gallery), Helen Colson on a new bike in North Wales! The Thompson Twins (ok, they're married but don't let that ruin a good gag), Chris and Michelle, who are riding from Newcastle to Edinburgh and back, Aussie Barry Evans is back here and is touring Germany as we speak, Pete and Jan Norman are tandeming around Alnwick in the Northeast of England and the two Simons, Walker and Turner, who have had a few adventures together this year, but are now touring separately this week, with Si Walker in Provence (and about to take on Mont Ventoux) and Si Turner in Northern Spain (about to take on Lagos de Covadonga)...good luck to them all...it's great to see.

(Hope I haven't missed any other tourers out!)

...and so onto club runs, we had three going out over the weekend, an excellent A-ride blast led by Andy Wrightson, and equally excellent and well attended C and D-rides led by Cedric and Dave Cole respectively...thanks all! It's lovely to see the pictures of the cafe stops, and to see the bacon, avocado and all the other lunches...as I mentioned to Andy last week, it's best if you add butter to avocado - it makes it easier to scrape it straight into the bin (personal view of the green menace - don't take offence! :D )

It's the first weekend of September coming up so we have our monthly Intro ride on Sunday 4th led by George Barker and supported by Steve Vaughan...please publicise this around to ensure your friends are aware of it, and invite them along.

Looking forward, we have the last 'flat' time trial of the season on Wednesday, the 20mile club championships, starting at 18:30, and there is a first call out for participants and volunteers for Philip Whiteman's South Salopian Audax on Saturday 1st October...see separate threads on these two events, but if you're not riding, then get your name down to help and give something back.

The call for Beacon winter kit has now gone out and includes a Gabba-like top! See Neil’s thread on the MB and note that the window opens this Friday (2nd Sept) for 10 days, so no dallying!

See you out on the road soon

Phil
