Weekly Club Update and Club runs for the weekend of 12/13th November

WEEKLY UPDATE:

Star Baker this week goes to Celia Brown whose showstopper at the Malvern Gravel Hill Climb on Saturday was a superb first place and drew yet another Paul Hollywood handshake. Another strong climb and a win for Celia who is raking these HC trophies up like leaves off our lawns. Fantastic work, Celia!

She followed up Saturday's heroics by joining the A-Ride on Sunday but unfortunately went 'kersplat' (her words) and hit the grassy deck, but made her way home ok... an eventful weekend, huh!

The A-ride was ably led this week by Karl Walton (his first lead for Beacon) and is the first of the 13 names on my hit list (from Paul Johnson's ride last week) crossed off. Good work, Karl...the rest of you are still on the spreadsheet! Always good to get a message from Alan Nicholls about club runs of yesteryear...great to hear that pints of beer, threats and obnoxious drivers were about in the 1950's, Alan...everything changes but everything stays the same, eh? Keep 'em coming, Alan.

Equally big thanks to the other leaders at the weekend, namely Cedric on Saturday, Mariana, Phil Gameson for an excellent B-Ride and Dave Cole for leading the monthly Intro Ride...thanks to all, and hopefully the monsoon at around 12noon didn't catch you right in the mush. Don't forget, try to get your rides off at 09:15 if you can, although for longer rides like Karl's A-Ride it makes sense to start a bit earlier.

It's the Beacon Dinner a week on Saturday, and we have to give a week's notice on numbers, so if you haven't already done so, get your tickets this week please...it is always a good night, but I might spoil it this year with a (probably unfunny) routine on the trials and tribulations of those riding the LEL!

A couple of other things to whet your whistle... there is a Droitwich CC 200kms Audax this Saturday, organised by our own Dr Philip Whiteman...a large Beacon presence is expected and I believe entries are open till the middle of this week. The weather looks positively balmy from Wednesday onwards, so an excellent chance to ride some dry roads in the winter, and the absolutely horrible Sudeley Bank!

Finally, we are still organising the Cross event at Walsall Arboretum on Sunday 4th December, and still require a few more volunteers to help out by marshalling, course setting etc... remember that there are NO club runs that day, so you may as well volunteer, eh? Your help would be appreciated, let's make it a great day of cross racing at a new venue!

That's all folks

Phil
