Weekly Club Update and Club runs for the weekend of 26th/27th of November

WEEKLY UPDATE:

Well, there's only one place to start this week, the Beacon Annual dinner and Awards night, held on Saturday. It was so good to see many Beacon members old and new there, with particular warm welcomes to Roger Shayes and Oscar Hopkins, both in or near their nineties and still going strong! At the opposite end of the age range, wasn't it wonderful to see 9-year old Matthew Russell picking up an award early in the night. As well as his Cross award, we've signed him up as a fully fledged ginger randonneur and will hope to see him often in the years to come...

Another winner of note was, of course, Celia Brown who took home 7 trophies on the night! Is this a record? In any case, the photo evidence of this is elsewhere on the Beacon FaceBook page - well done Celia.

...and yet there were still club runs at the weekend, the tide never stops and nor do club runs, both driven by the moon, and difficult to explain to the majority of the British population! :D Thanks to Mick Stanford (the new clubman of the year, and deservedly so!!) for leading a BC Guided ride, that drew them in from as far as Northampton this week, Phil Gameson for a great B-ride and Cedric's C-ride on Saturday, and great to see Naomi Bell riding at 52m rather than walking at 5,200m up in the Himalayas...superb adventure, Naomi!

We already have an A-ride and B-ride down for this coming weekend, so get your name down...

Only two weeks to the Beacon cross event at Walsall Arboretum, and don't forget there aren't any club runs that week, although an Intro Ride may be possible! Be great to see Beacon riders and volunteers there... At yesterday's cross event at Top Barn, Huan Dong was riding in the men's event and Matt Russell was also riding although a huge clod of mud got stuck in his gears toward the end which wouldn't come out and slowed him down unfortunately...you don't get that in the summer, eh?

Anyway, don't forget, no club runs a week on Sunday, so get your name down this week to make up for it!

Have a good week, watching footie or not watching footie, you pays yer money, you takes yer choice!

Phil
