Weekly Club Update and Club runs for the weekend of 10th and 11th of December

WEEKLY UPDATE:

Only one place to start this week, and that's the Cyclocross on Sunday. We put a lot of effort, time and expense into this to get it going and run it on the day, and huge thanks should go to Adrian Ravenscroft for this. He has pushed it as an idea, generated it into reality with Walsall council and the WMCCL organisers and ran the whole thing on the day. Massive thanks, Ade on a brilliant job...and it's this self-sacrifice and volunteering spirit that is so typical of him and others who either helped to set things up or helped on the day.

The venue was super popular with loads of riders, and five Beacon riders actually rode as well as the large groups of use there helping out. Matt Russell rode well again, looking super keen to finish 11th in his age group, and Martin Davis stormed through the field early doors in the V50, only to be fooled by the race lasting 10mins longer than he was expecting and having nothing left in this 'extra time' period. Kyle Gatier and Huan Dong had a battle in their race as the course got muddier and muddier, but Celia Brown was simply fantastic in the women's race, taking the lead on the first lap, and blowing the field apart and winning by 5 minutes! Top kudos to Celia (again), but great racing all round.

This week sees the Beacon RCC AGM at Hillscourt (and also available on Zoom for those who can't make it or prefer to dial in)...Be great to see a few members there in person, to hear your views....Also, if you have some time, please read the individual reports prepared for the AGM on the members page of the MB, there's loads of interesting stuff on there, including how membership has grown again, the wonderful things the Beacon Academy does for our younger riders, our plans for Audax next year, and the results of our club run survey (now posted on FaceBook also!) but also where we may need help, especially in liaising with BC and alarmingly, what we can do about time trialling as George L is stepping down and we may be without a TT series for the first time in donkeys years...We really don't want that to happen, so again, we are reaching out to you for ideas, volunteers to keep this major part of our club alive.

...and yes, club runs are back next week, get your name down to lead and embrace the cold weather...what with the worlds' reluctance to reduce emissions, this may be the last cold one we have...ooo, a little bit of politics there.

Hope to see you Thursday evening - 6:30pm start.

Phil
