WEEKLY UPDATE:
You can tell it's been icy when your strava stream is full of people on Zwift and gone out for bracing country walks... oh a few hardy souls out off-roading...excellent stuff. Obviously, there were no club runs at the weekend, but a big thanks to Alan Weaver for getting a group Zwift run together on both Saturday and Sunday...with the use of elastic bands and discord, Sunday's ride was understood to be much more togetherey ... These are a great way of riding together from the comfort of your own garage, so why not join one when convenient to you...they don't garner club run points just yet, but who knows in the future, after people stop exploding at the very idea of indoor points, then they may do
Last week saw the Beacon AGM...Not greatly attended it has to be said, but perhaps (with my glass half full), that represents the amazing love and complete trust you have for your committee to do the right things...and even if you don't it's easier for us to think these thoughts, huh?
There were many points of discussion that you can read about when the minutes are published, or I'll dripfeed in the next 2-3 weeks for maximum impact, but perhaps the two most urgent needs are finding volunteers to join the committee for the posts of:
- Time Trial Secretary. We really need someone who can liaise with past organisers to set up a time trial series for 2023, finalise this with the CTT and police, liaise with other local clubs to see if we want to combine efforts with, say Droitwich, Redditch or someone else and publicise the events in advance
- BC and CUK Liaison Secretary, which is to do exactly this, create relationships with these two local bodies, as there are potentially a lot of grants and funding available for cycling clubs that should be spent, if only it could be released. This role is to understand what these are, and how best to help them devise a cycling strategy for our city, which is a prerequisite for any funding approval.
Be great if we could get these posts filled in the next few weeks.
Finally, what's happening this week? Well, if the ice disappears, this coming Sunday sees the Christmas get-together for cycling clubs at the Swan in Chaddesley Corbett. Why not plan your club run to get to a local cafe for breakfast then head to the Swan for 12noon for a pint and cheese cob. Be good to see all the club runs going there this Sunday.
Keep happy, it's only cycling...it's not as if England have gone out of the World Cup or something

Re: Weekly Club Update and Club runs for the weekend of 17th and 18th of December
I am very tempted to go to the Swan in Chaddesley Corbett.
Temp look a tiny bit on the rise BUT so far the forcast Sunday midday is 70% chance precipitation.
Still plenty of time for this to change, but am not going to rush to publish a ride.
If in a few days weather forcast looks better and nobody has published a similar slow ride, I'll do it.
In the meantime, let's enjoy Alan's initiatives and the wonder of the technology zwifting us together.
