Weekly Club Update and Club runs for the weekend of 14th and 15th of January

WEEKLY UPDATE:

We had 33 riders out on the five club runs at the weekend, which is great stuff. Thanks to Nick Shenton, Cedric Gioan, Pete Norman, Ade Ravenscroft and Mick Stanford for leading the rides and hopefully all enjoyed the testing conditions. When was the last dry ride we had, huh? Great debate on mudguards on the A-run, with not everyone seeing their benefits, perhaps we should organise an empathy class soon?? :D

Talking of mud, it was the last WMCCL (Cross) event of the season on Sunday with young Matt Russell as our only participant, and relishing the conditions on his new bike, he finished a very creditable 5th...lovely work as always, Matt, and enjoy your last couple of races. Talking of cross, it's the Nationals this coming weekend at the Westmoreland County Ground, where I do believe that our very own Celia Brown is competing, so watch out for the video of that one, or if you're just passing (it's only a 500kms round trip!!), why not go along! Best of luck, Celia...let us know how you get on.

The Little Mountain Time Trial is now open for entries. This flagship event is again being organised by John Hitchcock, and a huge thank you goes out for him to stepping up again....details and entry can be found here:

We're still on the hunt for a TT secretary, but I did have a very helpful email exchange with Dan Grant, the TT secretary from Droitwich CC, who has shared their provisional 2023 TT calendar with us, and if we fail to recruit someone who can sort our own calendar out, then we at least have a fallback option to ensure that there are events going on locally. Big thanks to Dan for reaching out, which again goes to show that the work required to organise a Beacon series of Time Trials can be minimised by utilising events elsewhere, perhaps topped up with a few events of our own.... Yes, this is the third time I've put this on the weekly update, but perhaps this is the last...if no one comes forward this month to sort even just a few events out, we will not have any Beacon time trials in 2023... :( :( :(

On a more positive note, the audax world is going strong...we had John Williams and Andy Wrightson out on Saturday down in Tewkesbury for a very wet 200kms ride, and the Snowdrop/Sunrise scheduled for Saturday 25th February has seen a glut of Beacon entries recently and the total number of entries across the two rides has now passed 200. Hope to see you there and don't forget to pop your name down on the HELP REQUIRED AT THE 2023 SUNRISE/SNOWDROP thread which has just appeared on the message board.

Finally, Alan Weaver has posted to see if there is interest in a touring weekend to Ashbourne in Derbyshire in May this year. I'm sure that there will be but register your interest on either the MB or on the Facebook post....

Have a good week...wear flippers if you're heading out.

Phil
