SATURDAY 18th Feb - 9am - 43 or 51 miles C burst @ 13 mph

Post by CeGi » 12 Feb 2023 00:05

Some of our Saturday rides were just the 2 of us, but several others attracted several people. With the quite impressive turn out over the last couple of week-ends despite the cold, let's be optimistic and try again.
Can't ride Sunday / Have to be back early in the afternoon (no later than 2)
So proposing a 51 miles burst (with the option to cut it short to 43 miles):
https://ridewithgps.com/routes/41995183
9:00 start from the BH.

Ian Gannon
Ced G. (L)
Tom Owen
Sarah ?

NB1: Please note that due to medical reasons I use a handle-bar extender, a bit like TT-bars. I use this to relief the pain of NHS diagnosed trapped nerves in my wrists and elbows. I do NOT use these to ride like a TT racer, to draft behind others or similar performance seeking stunts.
Every bike ride, be it commute, ride alone or in group, entails its share of risks (bad road surface, motorised traffic, natural elements, our or other riders' mistakes or inattentions...). This is common knowledge and we all ride at our own risk. Nevertheless if my use of this extender, despite sanctioned by the BRCC committee, makes you feel uncomfortable, please do not join my rides.

NB2: Please also note that due to a combination of overloaded bike, love handles and betablockers, I am slow going uphill. Do not expect Alps climbing performance from me. So do not be surprised if you'll probably all overtake me during climbs. We'll regroup at the top and carry on from there.

Hey guys! Just checking… ‘burst’ means no café stop, right?! 😅

43 might be a cafe stop depending on time. Just don’t want people thinking we will be stopping at 25/30 miles.

On paper yes, Burst means no café stop.
But the route's designed for a quick hook at Herbert's Yard at 43 miles if people fancy one.
If everyone fancies a stop and I am short on time (I am the one with a hard stop) I am just finish the ride alone while you all go to the café (I trust Ian's dying for it ;-) )
So as Ian's said, its 43 miles of riding and for the end, we'll play it by ears depending on desires and time.

Hi Ced,

As my weekly miles can do with a bit of a boost, I'll join you on this one, as well.

(Trying to keep my weekly target run going.)

I hope that this 100k was a sufficient boost!
Thanks for joining me for the last 20 miles. Sorry I was busted over the last 2 miles, wasn't much help with the headwind back from the city

There seems to be a small niche market for Saturday club rides after.
Was happily surprised to see we were 6 brave rider at the BH this morning:
Ian Gannon
Wayne Gibbs
Ced G. (L)
Adrian McHughes
Tom Owen
Sarah Townsend

Started nicely with temperature of 11º in February.
After rattling bottle cage and low saddle fixed, the ride went into full stride and the unpleasant showers we encountered did not dampened our motivation. The weather then became mice again.
Towards the end Adrian overcame his initial flu pains and I am glad the ride came to an end or he would probably have started leading.
When nearing the end of the initial look in the Lickey most decided wisely to go for a well deserved refuelling in Herbert's yard. Only Wayne and I were hardcore enough to ask for 20 more miles!
Let's hope Tom and Sarah that this ride will have helped you get ready for your upcoming Mad Hare.
