WEEKLY UPDATE:
Are we weird? You may think that that is a rhetorical question, but speaking to a well known Beacon member at the weekend, he was saying that when he rides socially with another cycling club, they can't believe that he eats bacon, sausage and egg sandwiches at a cafe stop, as they all only eat small cake slices and coffee, and anything else is regarded as uncouth. Well, we all know Lord Nick Shenton of Iverley and he is a little uncouth (#no he's not), but surely bacon is the essence of a Beacon club run, and even the vegans amongst us know that is true. Anyway, perhaps I will update our club run risk register to add 'fatty foods will raise your cholestrol and they are subsequently banned from all club runs' (#no, they're not)
Three clubs runs ran at the weekend, namely Nick Shenton's hilly, bacon-eating fiasco to Clows Top, Michelle Thompson's sausage-eating fiasco to Wedges and Paul Balfe's egg-eating fiasco BC guided Ride to Umberslade... well done all, and thanks for keeping it real
Also, we had our first Beacon TT of the season on Saturday, and huge thanks to Simon Woodward for organising these. The next one is on us quickly and it's the 10-mile Earlswood course on TUESDAY APRIL 11th at 7pm...As we've said before, come along and give these a go...this course is being used throughout the season, so lay down a marker early and see how much you can improve as the nights get warmer and your bike gets faster. Talking of TT's, it's the famous LMTT in 2.5 weeks time on April 23rd and this year it's the 75th anniversary of this infamous event. There will be no club runs that day, so come along to ride, marshal, or even spectate (top of Ankerdine is always a comedy location to watch the riders), and make this the occasion it deserves to be
...and it's the Easter holidays, so there are loads of Beacon Academy things going on this week and next, please check them out on the Academy Facebook page!
That's it...so get your name down to lead this Easter Sunday, perhaps a shorter ride this week to allow people to get back to worship their roast potatoes, and did you see Neil Orchard's post about a new summer kit order?...this one includes a new away kit in Italian Azzurri blue with the tricolore stripes, it looks a great kit to add to your collection, so order directly from the weblink provided and this order closes next week to ensure we get the kit back in May...you have been warned... Forza Neilo
See you next week
