Weekly Club Update and Club runs for the weekend of 13th and 14th of May

WEEKLY UPDATE:

It seems apt to write this on today of all days, so it's a Volunteering special! We have often said that the lifeblood of any voluntary organisation such as Beacon RCC is whether we have enough volunteers to organise and help out on the things we want to do. We scrape by, relying a lot on the same people, and hope that the national average for people wanting to help out (about 10%) is the same for us.

There are a few things now where we could do with people saying 'yes' for a change, rather than leaving it for others...these are:

1. Our monthly time trials - Simon could do with one or two helpers to help out at the start/finish. The next TT is this Tuesday (9th May)
2. TT riders, the next one is 9th May (did I just say this?), why not have a go...it's not all about TT bikes and skinsuits
3. The Kidderminster Killer Audax needs some helpers at the HQ. This is on Saturday 20th July...could you help out? See the MB for more details
4. Kyle Gatier, our beloved Racing Secretary has moved to Scotland, and although he's happy to stay in post for the time being, it would be good if we could find someone top take over this role in the medium term...Fancy it?
5. The Beacon website is looking a little long in the tooth, so we're shouting out for any Beacon member with web design skills/interests to see whether they could help update the website. Is that you?

So there we go, there's some posts that could tickle your fancy. None of these posts gets you a salary or NI contributions, but you will feel better about yourselves! If you can help on any of the above, either post here, or have a word with ANYONE on the committee...

So, onto club runs, good to see a real smorgasbord of rides at the weekend, and thanks as usual to the leaders for getting then organised. Celia Brown blasted another TT in Malvern on Saturday, winning again in the Beacon tricolore jersey, so great to see her riding so strongly! There were a couple of audaxes at the weekend also, with Philip Whiteman's Skiver's Day Out 200 on Friday and the Warwickshire 200 on Sunday, which saw 5 Beacon riders out on these events. If you've ever wondered how to get into Audax, take a look at the short WORD summary from John Williams on how he did it, and how much it means to him, now posted on the Beacon FB page. Finally, special mention this week goes to Jason Hogg, who rode the infamous Fred Whitton sportive in full Beacon colours yesterday...this is a beast of a ride, so well done, Jason!

...and yes, it's the Tuesday TT this week, which is located on the Tuesday night run, so have a word with your mates and give it a go...you'll love it.

To finish where we started, if you can help out on any of the things listed above, please shout up...be one of the gifted 10%.

Take care

Phil
