Sunday 21st May Meriden Memorial Service D run

Post by PaulB » 14 May 2023 19:24

Hi All

I will lead a D Run to Meriden for the cyclists memorial at Meriden, as the service is at 11am and if you fancy we can have a bite at Berryfields before the memorial. Usual pace of 11mph.

Meet at BH Northfiled for a 8 am start, we will aim to get to Berryfileds for a bacon butty, or whatever, at around 10am, then onto the memorial for 10-45.

55 mile round trip at ave 11 mph

Times dependent on a smooth run up to Meriden so plans may change, we can always go to Lavender Hall or Berryfields after service

Also if joiners do not want to stop at Berryfields then we can leave at 8-15am from BH Northfield, ill leave that up to you when you sign up below, just put note whether you want a stop for a bite to eat or not and ill go with the group decision. There is usually a tea and cake stall available after the service.

Many thanks Paul that’s great. I’ll vote for an 8.00 start but let’s see what others say.

Jan & I will tandem to the event, we’ll start off with you but tend to average about 13, mainly to get enough momentum to get up the hills.! If Dave wants to put the wreath in one of our large panniers then give me a call on 07779912359

Many thanks to Paul D Run and Ced C Run for making sure there was a good Beacon turnout at the Meriden gathering of the cycling clans.

We had some fun walking for a mile or so through the Knowle half marathon. My fault for suggesting what is usually the fastest route back. The WI Village Hall tea and cake was very welcome and Dave Hearn of Coventry CTC made a very good job of organising the event as usual with Bulkington Brass Band, great weather and a short service.

Well that was a cracking ride out to the Meriden Cyclists Memorial Service at Meriden

Had a bit of a Garmin route problem first thing but had Dave C to rely on, thanks Dave. Was one of those route malfunction days but all's well that ends well.
Also, as Dave mentions above, a nice long walk whilst runners took over the roads but nice day for it

Present were

Paul Balfe (L)
Dave cox (Wreath Carrier, (well done Dave on your fold up bike)
Neil Evanson
Pete & Jen Norman, met us at cafe and rode back with us
Adrian McHugh, met us there and rode back with us

Good turnout of Beacon members and its an event that is once a year, in remembrance of cyclists killed in world wars so maybe for next year a bigger turnout please, after all where would we be now if was not for all those brave men.
Thank You

Paul B
