RIDE POSTPONED DUE TO RAIL STRIKE SATURDAY AND LIMITED SERVICES SUNDAY

Hi All

I am planning to take a train to Lichfield next Sunday 4th June.

First train from Northfield will be 9-15am so aiming to catch that and arrive in Lichfield at 10-13am
Trains from Lichfield will run every 30 mins but probably aiming to catch a train back by 4-30 but that's dependent on scenery and photo opps and cafe stop.

I am aware there will be a rail strike from Weds 31st May to Saturday 3rd June so i will keep an eye on this but so far on the Trainline app it says the day after the strike will not affect services on WM Trains YET, so lets see by next week but i reckon it will be ok.

Total distance of 74 kms or 46 miles

Cafe stop at 35kms or 21 miles - ave speed could be anything form 10 to 13 mph

i expect this route to be very scenic and we will be following the Lost Lanes route number 21

I would suggest minimum 28c tyres as we will be riding on canal towpaths and maybe a few gravel/compacted paths

Going to have to check the Train Service is going to be ok becayse if strike action on the Saturday might affect trains on the sunday

I see you’ve posted the Lichfield ride on Beacon.
Word of caution - as well as the canal which is rough in places there are a few gravel tracks as well as crossing Cannock Chase where there are a couple of tough off-road climbs followed by some bone-crushing descents!
I went on my steel tourer with 38c tyres. I wouldn’t fancy Cannock on much less to be honest. Cheers Rich

Anybody with tyres less than 38C tyres (and hill climbing gears) will struggle or should not sttempt this ride

I'll have to duck out of this I don't think any of my bikes will be suitable. I gave my MTB away a while back and my tourer utility bike is too heavy.

Do not want to be responsible as a ride leader that we may get delayed or cancelled trains and frustration

I will therefore lead a D Ride to Island Meadow - meet at BH fir 9-15 departure
