Weekly Club Update and Club runs for the weekend of 17th and 18th of June

WEEKLY UPDATE:

Welcome back, I hear you all cry :D , but who knows, we may have more guest presenters of this slot in future to shake it up a bit.

Anyway, there is sooooo much going on as we hit the peak cycling season. First off, please raise your hats to John Williams, our vey own laughing policeman, who blasted down from John O'Groats to Land's End is 4 days and 16hours...wowser! Karl Walton started this epic with him, but unfortunately had to stop in Manchester, having covered that journey in a little over two days...just fantastic riding again from both of you. Just as they were finishing, Cedric Gioan and Ian Gannon were starting on the same journey, albeit at a much more sensible pace! Have fun boys, and enjoy the warm weather...Not only that, but Stuart White cycled the 600kms 'A Pair of Kirtons Audax' (great name huh!) in just 25hours...an unbelievable pace! We also have Naomi Bell riding the Rockies in the US at the moment, and regularly riding well above 3,000m in altitude...watch out for them bears! Young Matt Russell, is still blasting away in these races across the Midlands, regularly in the top 10 now despite being the youngest in the age group he is in...wonderful stuff, Matt.

There's probably more hijinks going on, but that's enough for this week...what's coming up?

1. Tuesday night bash and 10mile Earlswood TT... Yes, it's the next Beacon time trial on Tuesday evening and with the weather set fair, why not have a go. It's right on the Tuesday night bash route, so gird your loins, put a number on your back, and explode! (in a good way)

2. National Grasstrack championships and two warm up nights for junior riders. Beacon are hosting the National Grasstrack championships at Queensbridge school on Saturday 8th July, with training events the previous two Wednesdays. Get your child enrolled in this, and PLEASE volunteer to help out at the Nationals...This is yet another major event we can be bothered to organise, so please support the Academy by helping out on the day.

3. Club runs are now on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, as well as at weekends, and it's great to see that we have new guys riding with us most weeks...don't forget anybody then can ride a maximum of THREE rides with us before having to become a member... and also, let's have leaders coming forward early in the week if possible. My t-square statistical analysis has shown that n = (tw)/n(p), where n = number of riders, t = time before Sunday in number of days, w = weather, and n(p) = numbers of riders who last rode, so you don't have to be a rocket scientist to work out what to do  Some big adventures going on this coming weekend, including the A-Ride pushing the boundaries ride to Llandudno and back at some 424kms, and I think it's the Dragon Ride in Wales this coming Sunday, which always sees a healthy Beacon contingent...

4. Finally, the Evesham velo park has been booked for a 90min session on Wednesday 5th July (17:30-19:00), as the track is booked elsewhere from 7pm most nights. More details to follow, but be great to get a huge number of Beacon members along to this, where transponders can be worn to enable us to have lap timings and all sorts of adventures, followed by a review of a beer.. Even if you can only get down for 6pm, it will still be worth it! Watch the separate post for more details, but hold the date, and ensure an early getaway from work that day...don't book any 4pm meetings!

Keep happy whatever you're doing!

Phil
