Sunday 30th July. C paced 200k to Cotswolds and south east. 8:00am departure
Haven't done many this year so while the days are still long enough I'll be trying to put another 200k under my belt.
In order to get people motivated, let's talk food: there will be a proper food stop halfway at the 'Cotswold view' tea room @98km (as the usual Straw Kitchen nearby is closed on Sundays) with probably two shorter stops, one @63k at the Coop in Fenny Compton (or 10k early in Bishop's Itchington if people really can't wait) and the second short stop in Evesham at Greggs @162k (as likely to be the only place left open when we get there. Open until 6pm on Sundays). Obviously we'll play by ear as a group and if someone is dying for an extra quick ice-cream along the way in a shop, we'll stop as long as they get me one . Bringing your stock of snack bars and jelly babies is neverthless a wise move.
Route will be https://ridewithgps.com/routes/42654735
Average speed target: 14 mph (maybe a tad bit on the 13mph side depending how my old bones cope with the hill )
Any volunteer for that epic ride, let's meet at the BH @8:00 for departure as soon as all there.
Return back in Northfield likely to be around {insert length of string here} depending on speed and length of stops, so don't plan anything else in your afternoon

Ansel Nguyen
Dan Spooner
Mark Stammers
Alan Weaver
NB1: Please note that due to medical reasons I use a handle-bar extender, a bit like TT-bars. I use this to relief the pain of NHS diagnosed trapped nerves in my wrists and elbows. I do NOT use these to ride like a TT racer, to draft behind others or similar performance seeking stunts.
Every bike ride, be it commute, ride alone or in group, entails its share of risks (bad road surface, motorised traffic, natural elements, our or other riders' mistakes or inattentions...). This is common knowledge and we all ride at our own risk. Nevertheless if my use of this extender, despite sanctioned by the BRCC committee, makes you feel uncomfortable, please do not join my rides.
NB2: Please also note that due to a combination of overloaded tool bag and betablockers, I am slow going uphill. Do not expect Alps climbing performance from me. So do not be surprised if you'll probably all overtake me during climbs. We'll regroup at the top and carry on from there.
Looking for a café for a stop in one of your ride? Why not use Mark's Magic Map to select a cyclist vetted place close to your route?.

Just a quick note to my knowledge the Straw Kitchen stopped opening on a Sunday about 2 years ago.

I am glad someone is knowledgeable .ballintrane wrote: ↑24 Jul 2023 18:18Just a quick note to my knowledge the Straw Kitchen stopped opening on a Sunday about 2 years ago.
My 2 visits there last year were on Saturday indeed and google confirms the Sunday closure
Thanks Paul, better find out now that there when starving
OK, I'll either reshuffle the cards slightly on this route for the main stop halfway or will use a totally different route.
Will be a 200k anyway. Will update the OP accordingly by Thursday evening latest so do not download route yet.

OK, we'll give https://www.wyattsgardencentre.co.uk/co ... w-tea-room a try. nearly same mileage. Looks nice and price reasonnable.
Added bonus, it shaved 2 miles and 200ft off the route

To be honest, you might just as well go thru the centre of Evesham and stay on the main road till we turn.
Either that or turn left at Evesham and come up over the Lenches and Bishampton

Can I join you until Warwick need to be home late morning?

Left the BH:
Ced G
Leigh Hopkins (turn around at warwick as had to be back early)
Ansel Nguyen
Dan Spooner
Mark Stammers
Alan Weaver
First half to the café we were on fire @ 15mph+
Second half quite different. Not sure whether it was the undulating terrain (to say the least) or the relentless rain which cooled our eagerness the most? Doesn't matter we seem to all have had a gret day.
Special kudos to Daniel for having increased his longest ride from 86k to 204k in 8 days. Unbelievable!
