WEEKLY UPDATE:
Just so much to say this week, but like in all good publications (and some crap ones), if you make a factual error one week, you correct it the following week. In the last update, I referred to the legendary Ian Taylor as 'formerly of this parish', but although he has moved a few miles south, he is still a Beacon member and proudly wears the colours on his 40kph+ time trials, so he is very much still in our translucent parish, and we rejoice as such...
Anyway, what's been happening? Well, big shout outs to Celia Brown for riding and (of course) and finishing 1st woman at a summer cross event in Cheltenham, Adrian Ravenscroft took a few days off from organising events and winter cross training to ride the 'Way of the Roses', a 270kms (170mile) Coast-to-coast jaunt from Morecambe to Bridlington...great work, Ade. ...and LEJOG is happening again, as I write, Michelle and Chris Thompson are in Scotland heading north on a completely self-supported ride, laden down with panniers and sunny smiles despite the weather...good luck to the Thompsons and watch out for photos next week as they hopefully ride into John O'Groats pushed along by a tailwind and the thought of a tot of whisky!
...but top billing this week goes to Gavin Giles who rode and swam in many events at the British Transplant Games at the weekend, which this year took place in Coventry and Solihull. Despite having a heart operation late last year, Gavin rode well, picking up age group medals in the TT and road race as well as bagging two golds in the swimming events...simply inspirational stuff, Gavin...congratulations from all at Beacon.
It's the 10-mile, 2-up, road bike time trial a week on Tuesday (8th August), with prizes galore, so grab a mate and make sure this is a roaring success...Tuesday nighters...roll up, roll up and put your weekly fast rides to the test in the cycling test of truth!
Thanks as always to the club run leaders at the weekend, namely Nick S, Mariana S, Mick S, and Cedric...great rides all round...and as I'm sure next Sunday will be warm and sunny as usual, get your names down to lead a ride before the summer turns rainy and cool
and finally, as you may have seen, Beacon hoodies in a range of colours and sizes are about to be ordered, you have two weeks to state your colour/size and pay Beacon...see Facebook for more details
Have a great week as we roll into August...
