Weekly Club Update and Club runs for the weekend of 7th and 8th of October

WEEKLY UPDATE:

So that's it. September is over and there are few things now finished for the Summer. It was the last Tuesday evening ride last week and huge thanks to Neil for organising these in the Summer. They'll be back next May, but the Thursday night hilly shorter ride continues every week for those who like owls, badgers, ghosts and vampires. It was also the last of the Beacon audaxes on Saturday and huge hat-raising goes to Dr Philip Whiteman for organising this. This was his last audax organisation for Beacon as he wants to just ride a few next year, so the magical triumvirate of me, Mick Stanford and John Williams will take over the organisation of the Beyond the Dyke Audax next Autumn. Having said, there is one last Dr Whiteman Audax in November, the Salinae and Cotswolds Audax on Saturday 11th November under the umbrella of our friends at Droitwich CC...Why not go along for a November blast?

...but all is not lost, club runs go on apace of course and thanks to the three leaders on Sunday for taking over 25 souls to various cafes in the South Midlands...big thanks to Michelle Thompson, Mariana Sorrill and Paul Balfe for leading the 3 rides, and hope all enjoyed it. There was no A-run as most normal riders were riding the Audax on Saturday so were in no fit state to ride again on Sunday, but there is an issue with the A-ride at the moment...most of the regular leaders have being doing it for 5years or more, so we really need some 'young blood' to start leading these rides... new leaders are always welcome, and you will be supported in anything you want to know.

With all due respect to other peoples' efforts this weekend, top kudos of the week goes to Roger Green who went out on the D-Ride on his tandem with Si Woodward this weekend. Roger is over 80 years old, registered blind and this weekend saw the 25th birthday of his beloved tandem. This is so heart warming to hear that Roger is still riding strongly, but obviously needs the help from others on the front of his beloved bike. He's always on the look out for new partners, and no experience is required, so if you want to help a club legend continue to ride in the countryside, then please contact Simon Woodward for more info.

More Cross racing happened of course at the weekend, at Meriden again, with Matt Russell again just failing to get on the podium on a course that was full of mud, but also great to see young Ethan at the Monsal Head hill climb giving it full beans...blimey, it's hard enough for us seasoned veterans to get up there, so huge kudos to young Ethan!

Two final quickies, last chance to register your interest for the Beacon Mallorca trip next April...registration for the Mallorca 312 opens tomorrow so get in touch with me TODAY if you want to know more details of the trip...either on messenger or on here.

...and finally, finally, the legend that is Neil Orchard is opening the winter kit order later this week, which may or may not include any late requests for the snazzy summer blue kit...watch out for his post on the message board.

That's it...it may be Hallowe'en in 4 weeks but warm weather is still here, so get out on your bikes.

See you soon

Phil
