Weekly Club Update and Club runs for the weekend of 4th and 5th of November

WEEKLY UPDATE:

November's here! 'Tis the month of the annual Beacon dinner and the Beacon cross event...now, the Beacon dinner committee have listened to members' views on what we want for a slightly changed Beacon awards night, so come along. You may not have been before, but it's a social night and no one has to do speeches so come along and chat to people that you may never have seen in normal clothes before!...entries here:

At the end of the month, it's the Beacon round of the WMCCL (Cross)...Again, we put a lot of effort into organising these events, so please take a look at the details on the message board and help out on the day or the day before...it's strange that all the volunteers who have stepped up this year, also stepped up last year...ah well, perhaps it's not so strange!

Thanks to all the ride leaders at the weekend, namely Nick Shenton, Si Walker, Paul Balfe and Richard Chaplin... as winter is drawing on, we've been chatting over what we should do with club runs, i.e. keep them the same, encourage shorter rides or whatever...now I have always said, you can suggest whatever the hell you like for a a club run, 300kms in the sleet or a trip across the Bristol Road to the cafe at Northfield baths, or anything in between, but until Christmas, let's look to do a few slightly shorter club runs with the cafe nearer the end rather than in the middle, such that people who have to get back early can do so, but the cafe-lovers can also indulge. It's not compulsory, but a round trip with a cafe stop at somewhere like Broad Acres, Barnt Green, Waseley etc may encourage the non-stoppers as well as the stoppers. To help with this, over the next week or two, we will start to post route ideas in ridewithgps format on the message board, and you're free to use them. Oh, and finally if a 9am or 08:45 start is better for you and your domestic arrangements, then start then!

Congratulations to Celia Brown at the National Hill climb Championships on Sunday - this year, it was up the notorious Struggle in Ambleside, a steep, horrible hill at the best of times, and Celia finished 5th in her category. She rides these hill climbs for Elevate RT team, but she's always a Beaconite to us, so we support her wholeheartedly, and look forward to her wearing the tricolore again in forthcoming cross events.

Finally, the 200kms audax riders were out in force at the weekend, with Naomi Bell and Cedric riding a muddy ride on Friday and Karl Walton and Phil Walker riding the same distance on Saturday...great work all, and this reiterates just how much we are a strong club for audax, indeed, we are well within the top ten clubs in the UK...and I'll give more info on this at the end of November when the Audax season ends.

That's it for this week...don't forget to sign up for the Beacon dinner night.

Phil
