Weekly Club Update and Club runs for the weekend of 2nd and 3rd of December

WEEKLY UPDATE:

With over 350 competitors, persistent drizzle and a couple of dozen volunteers, Round 11 of the WMCCL, hosted by Beacon RCC and Stourbridge CC was a success on Sunday. It was great to watch from a dry gazebo as the later riders had sooo much mud to contend with! Thanks to all the helpers and riders for making it a success, and it's tough standing out in the cold for hours marshalling or course building, so all the volunteers get a cheery slap on the back, but let's all hail Mr Adrian Ravenscroft. Without his unflagging enthusiasm to propose that we organise a round of cross, lead the organisation and being front and centre all day yesterday, this event just would not happen. He really is a star and we're very lucky he puts himself out time and time again, and we hugely appreciate all of his efforts. So this week's top kudos goes to Ade again...put your feet up for a day, Ade to reflect on a job well done!

So what else happened? So there were no club runs but a couple of people did ride long at the weekend, John Williams rode to Manchester on Friday and back on Saturday riding some 420kms over the two days in frrrreezing weather, and Naomi Bell also rode a 200kms calendar Audax on Saturday, starting at 07:30, her water bottle froze in the first 20mins and didn't defrost till mid afternoon, a quite superb effort and it's great that we are continuing to commit to long distance riding even in these colder months. There are currently 7-8 people club members cycling at least one 200kms ride each month (it's called a RRTY - Randonneur Round the Year), and we all encourage each other and ride together when we can... let's keep that going.

Club runs are back next weekend also, so despite the dodgy weather at the moment, get you biggest coat down from the loft, stitch two pairs of gloves together, don that balaclava and come out this weekend, it will be great to get some rides listed on the message board early in the week, and DON'T FORGET, you can propose any ride you like, with perhaps short rides being more appropriate for the next couple of months, and we've even given you some suggested routes on the message board...good grief, short of holding your hand on the scary downhills, we couldn't give you any more!

A couple of people have asked if the Chaddesley Corbett Swan Christmas ride is happening this year, and it's been confirmed that it is, and it's scheduled for Sunday December 17th...so make sure you're free on that day.

Apparently Jack Frost is nipping at your nose for the next 10 days or so, so wrap up warm (or more likely...get your Zwift account revved up)

Phil
