Weekly Club Update and Club runs for the weekend of 27th/28th of January

WEEKLY UPDATE:

A bit windy, ey it? but despite the ninth named storm of the winter blowing all around us, there was still three club runs going out, which all seemed to increase in size on the day, which is good to see. Thanks to Stuart Jones, Mark Stammers and Mick Stanford for leading as usual, and it wasn't a bad morning to be out as the real winds didn't kick in till the afternoon.

So, our Ridewithgps club account has been loaded with lots of routes, and your invitation to join up will be emailed to you either later today or tomorrow. If you don't have a free ridewithgps account yet, then just sign up either on the app on your mobile or on your laptop, using the email address that you get emailed to from Beacon RCC, then you will be able to upgrade to premium features for free, when our club account email buzzes in.

In addition, we will do a 5min run through of the features next Wednesday evening at 18:30 on Zoom, together with a 25min summary of the fundamentals of leading a club run...If you are new to leading, haven't yet led, or even an old hand, we really need to join that call so that we have a consistency of what constitutes a decent club run, i.e. we are consistent in what a club run leader does for whatever ride is posted. So a quick 30min call, in exactly the same time as Midlands Today is on BBC at 18:30...what's it to be, Nick Owen or Beacon? :D

More details on how to join the Zoom call will be given this week.

It's Harry Morris' funeral this Tuesday at 14:45 at Redditch Cremetorium. Harry was the last surviving founder member of Beacon from 77 years ago until his passing just before Christmas at the age of 93...so a few of us are going along to pay our respects. Rest in Peace, Harry!

A couple of committee related issues that you should be aware of...Mariana is taking over the kit responsibilities from Neil Orchard, so you may get kit related messages from either of them until Mariana steps in fully...and we have formalised Nick Shenton as the Beacon social secretary (a role he's been doing off his own back) and a place on the committee, so please welcome them both and watch out for more social nights out in the future.

That's enough to be getting on with...Don't forget, 18:30 a week on Wednesday (31st January). We've kept it short to encourage you to dial in, get on your turbo trainer and listen, eat your tea and listen, watch Nick Owen and listen, but please dial in.

Have a good week

Phil
