Weekly Club Update and Club runs for the weekend of 2nd and 3rd of March

WEEKLY UPDATE:

Early frost and crappy lanes did not deter most of the Sunrisers and Snowdroppers on Saturday, I was amazed to see over 200 riders turn up and ride our biggest Beacon Audax despite the conditions, and the main road diversion for the first 20kms helped to avoid smaller lanes until the frost melted away into quite a nice day. We had riders well into their 70's but hats off again to our 11-year old randonneur Matt Russell, who rode out to the event with his dad Jim in the worst of the icy conditions, rode the Snowdrop in a good time and then rode home again to top out on 104miles on the day, a new longest ever ride for Matt...Fantastic stuff, Matt. He looked great in his Beacon kit on such a long ride, and hopefully he will inspire others to do the same... Fancy doing your first 100mile ride this year, I'm sure if you publicised that you wanted to, others in the same boat would join you on your journey!

Thanks to the Beacon volunteers who made the Audaxes a success, and it's a pleasure to organise when the help is there, and the riders come in their droves...Thank you to all.

Of course, with this event on and over 20 Beacon riders riding, club runs were less populated than usual, but over a dozen went out on Sunday and thanks as always to Mariana Sorrill and Paul Balfe for leading the C and D rides respectively... Last week we had 16 riders out on the A-run, and if most of those led just once, we'd have an A-ride every week, so think on...why not just post a ride, there are oodles of routes to choose from on the new club account RidewithGps and loads of people who will help lead on the day, it just needs YOU to do the upfront bit... Surprise me with your spring enthusiasm.

Yes, it's the emergence of March this week, Spring is here, although the Snowdrops and daffodils seen to have been and gone already, (perhaps we should call the Snowdrop Audax the Full Summer Flowers Audax next year, eh?), so prepare your best bikes...it won't be long!!

That's it for this week, perhaps next week, we'll post a run down of Spring/Summer events and that diary of rides and adventures will certainly be in the next Beacon newsletter so watch out for that...

Have a great week

Phil
