Weekly Club Update and Club runs for the weekend of 9th and 10th of March

WEEKLY UPDATE:

I hope you all received our Beacon Bulletin via email last week, and took a glance at it? It contains more cycling events than you can shake a stick at, including multi-day tours, time trials, academy events, socials, so whether you like cycling or drinking, we've got you covered. It's great that we get these events supported, but as always, the volunteering always seems to be by the same people. We are calling particularly for volunteers at the Little Mountain Time Trial, Beacon's flagship event...you may have read about a Beacon stalwart who was standing down from volunteering at this event after 70 years, and if that didn't tug at your bodily strings, then there is no hope...

One thing that wasn't in the bulletin but we have long since promised is a bike mechanical course for non-mechanics (like me!)...This will take place on Wednesday March 20th at Holloway Hall Community Centre, Ley Hill, Northfield at 17:30 and last for about 2hours and a bit and led by our own Dr Bike, Mick Stanford...I'll publicise this in a separate post (and include what will be demonstrated) and will be free for members. If we're inundated, or many people can't make that date or time, we may hold another one in April, so don't despair!

Sunday saw an icy start to the day, but 4 club runs did go out with two dozen riders or so, and after the first hour, it was quite pleasant, so thanks to the leaders as always, namely Phil Gameson, Pete Norman, Ade Ravenscroft and Paul Balfe, who led a ride to the Safer Streets demonstration in Handsworth, which was later reported on by Midlands Today.

Watching the Strade Bianchi on Saturday and Tadej Pogacer's 81kms solo attack has surely made you a tiger for similar feats of your own? No? Ok, but an 81metre attack to be first in the queue at the cafe is encouraged, just for the sheer fun of it.

It's Mother's Day this coming Sunday, so plans may be being made behind your back, but if you're free, why not post a ride...whatever you post, you always get people along, so you know what to do...it looks a better week weather wise this week, so embrace the possibilities...grab a route from the club account and ride your bike, it couldn't be simpler.

Spring is here, the lambs are out there, and they are not silent, Hannibal.

Have a great week

Phil
