Introductory Rides 2015

Post by Andy Terry » 19 Dec 2014 18:17

As usual we need a good mix of volunteers for these rides which are proving to be as popular as ever. So can we please, please have some new ride leaders and support riders to ease the burden on those who regularly turn out. We have more than enough competent members that you only need turn out for two Sundays a year, once as leader and once as support. If you don't feel confident as leader then just volunteer as a support rider.

4th January - no intro ride
1st February - Colin Groves (L) tba (S) - Earlswood
1st March - Gary Macintosh (L) John Soady (S) - dest tba
5th April - John Deeley (L) Helen Jamieson (S) - dest tba
3rd May - Andy Terry (L) Gary Macintosh (S) - Earlswood
7th June - Mark Finglas (L) John Deeley (S) - Earlswood
5th July - Bob Green - Cutnall Green / Whitlenge
2nd August - George Barker (L) - Chaddesley Corbett
6th September John Soady (L) - Earlswood
4th October Simon Walker (L) Kevin Frobisher (S) - dest tba
1st November Pete Marshall & Simon Turner - Ilshaw Heath

Due to unforeseen developments, I'm afraid that I won't be able to lead the Feb intro ride after all. I'll try to lead later in the year.

I'll take the intro ride on the 1st Feb. It'll be to the Stables at Earlswood (providing they're open).

Well, if I'm going to do one this year at all, it had better be August, hadn't it? Probably Chaddesley Corbett, but will not decide for sure until closer to the time.

Hi all

As a reminder I'm taking the intro ride this Sunday to The Stables in Earlswood. If conditions are tricky i'll stick to gritted routes as far as possible.

The plan is for a 25 - 30 mile ride with a slightly longer outward leg than return. Depending on the group this can be lengthened or shortened to suit. It'll be a sociable potter and the route will be as flat as i can make it.

I'll be at the Black Horse for 9:15 looking to leave by 9:30 at the latest. I ride a light blue Kinesis but i'll make myself known.

Look forward to seeing you there.

Colin

Hi to all
I have put my name down to support the intro ride on the 7th June with mark Finglas. Would anyone else be willing to take my place as I really fancy going on Paul's 100 in 8 hrs as these rides don't come along very often and I don't want to let him down. If no interest I will continue with it.
Thanks

This Sundays April intro. ride will be to the Stables café near Earlswood.

Route is a tad over 30 miles (unless we decide to detour) and will be out past Kings Norton golf club, Tanworth in Arden, Pig Trot Lane, across to Packwood, Hockley Heath and Stables cafe. Return via Wythall.

Support will be provided by Paul Farrel in Helens absence and all are welcome to join for an easy paced ride and back earlier than usual club runs in time for Easter Sunday duties.

Hi Raj - if you can ride for an hour and a half at a steady pace, stop for a cup of tea and a piece of cake and then ride for another hour and a half, you'll be fine.

Looks like its going to be a fine day for a bike ride, judging by the weather forecast, so even less to be nervous about!

I hope you enjoy it!!

Intro

Post by bobg » 30 Jun 2015 13:34

I'm happy to lead the intro this coming Sunday. Was thinking either Cutnall Green, or maybe Whitlenge. May be slightly over the 30 miles but it will be very steady.
There is not a hill that is to steep to walk up.

I need to sort out arrangements this weekend, but I may be able to support you, Bob. Will let you know soon.

EDIT

I will have to say no, unfortunately. This weekend is my only opportunity to test ride The Kidderminster Killer. Given the forecast for Saturday, my ride may now occur on Sunday.

Bob, have you decided upon which of the two potential destinations you will be using? Lisa may ride out with Thomas to join up with the group at the cafe

Hi Philip, The plan was, if only a small group then Cutnall Green or a larger group and everyone was happy to do an extra 5 miles or so then Whitlenge.
But quite happy to make it whitlenge whatever. See you in the morning and thanks for your help.

Steve, a very minor point that doesn't need urgent correction: on the website, you have me down to lead both in August and in November. I think the second entry is a typo.

No worries. I'm not strong enough to lead yet, so I've messaged john Dealey and he's agree to lead.
I just hope you're feeling better soon, that's the important thing.

This will be a 30 mile route around south Birmingham, starting at the Black Horse Northfield with a short stop at the Earlswood tea rooms at about 18 miles, before returning to the Black Horse.
I will be leading and supported by Kevin Frobisher.
Newcomers are advised to check the message board beforehand for any additional information.

Hi all, apologies but I will no longer be able to lead the intro ride on the 1st November due to new job/new shift roster putting me on dayshift over that weekend. The new shift is four on four off so getting out regularly with you all will be a little more sporadic in future. Hopefully not too much though.

Thanks Chas.

Hi I've not done an Intro Ride for a while but will do the 6th December probably to Avoncroft Museum - I'll need to check that they still allow you in to the cafe and haven't been taken over by Father Xmas. Also subject to weather conditions. Be good to have some support.
