100 in 7 - departure at 08.15

This club run will cover 100 miles within the maximum permitted time of 7 hours overall, including stops. The ride will be at A Run pace.

The outbound route is along familiar roads to Fladbury, after which we swing around the sides of Bredon Hill to Tewkesbury, thence turning towards Welland. Up until this point route is undulating until we hit Marlbank. Beyond Colwall, the route follows some scenic lanes never used on any of our club runs.

So bring your energy gels and fluids to keep you going along. I anticipate one refreshment stop at British Camp tea bar in the Malverns. The tea bar is out of doors and sells basic items such as pies, teas and cakes. Don't expect beans on toast. It just so happens to be located midway at about the 50 mile mark. However, if the weather is poor then I suggest that we make a premature stop at Coffee#1 in Tewkesbury.

Given that this is a 100 mile ride in 7 hours, I would appreciate a group that works together in order to complete the route within the permitted time limit. However, if you are suffering and unable to complete within the time then please be prepared to return under your own steam. Equally the pace should not be excessive as we do not wish to loose riders unnecessarily. The link below will help you to follow the route.

Because this is a Hilly route i'm going to suggest a two stop strategy 1st stop halfpenny green airport(33 miles) and then rays farm(68 miles) if we make it a one stop then that will be Coalport YHA cafe(51 miles) bring plenty of food and water.(And a yo yo because it will be up and down!!!).

(Please note this ride will not be suitable for a first attempt at 100 miles).

A leader for the C run is still required. Please don't sit back on your hands and wait for somebody else to volunteer.

Phil, I'd like to join your group for the easy part of your ride if I may.

My plan is to wait for you at the junction after Lower Bentley, which I estimate you'll reach about 08:45. I'm reasonably hopeful of being able to hang on to the back through the undulating section, until you climb up to Malvern. At that point, I'll slip quietly off the back and join you at the top for coffee. Given the terrain beyond Malvern, there isn't a hope in hell of me keeping up. So I'll take my own, slightly more circuitous route home from there, so as to reach 100 miles myself by the finish.

My plan depends on me a) making enough progress with work to be able to spare the time and b) being able to get up early enough to make the rendezvous. Since my ability to do either of those things (let alone both) is questionable, please don't wait for me at the half hour mark.

Also, since my ability to keep up is also questionable, and since I know all the roads you are using well, I don't expect anyone to wait for me on the road.

PS: Malvern sounds like a long way to go on two bottles, certainly for me (>100km) but maybe for the whole group (>80km). Do you have refill plans, or should I be thinking about some way of carrying extra water?

Beckford Village stores are open until 11am. Tewkesbury Coop is another option.

See you on Sunday.

Can't quite believe you're going for a ride round the Malvern Hills and you think you might need a tap

Haha! Thing is, I think I'll need a tap long before I get there. By Malvern, I'll have done about 110km, which for me usually equates to 3 or 4 bottles.

Great route today through some lovely lanes and that cafe makes cracking omelettes. Cheers for leading that one Dave.
Couple of riders did not respond to car up shouts and looked a little vulnerable on several occasions though, enough to worry me on the main roads. I was on the point of riding up at one stage but we turned off onto a minor road.
Gripe over, lovely day out.

Today's 100 in 7 should be regarded as misrepresentation under the Sale of Good and Services Act. The obscene pace resulted in a completion of 6-15 with a ride time of 5-45. Aided by the wind we made a rapid progress south before heading back north. The only hill of the day, Marlbank onto British Camp, provided the only instance of a significant decrease in pace.

Thanks to all and for sharing the lead on the front.

Thanks for today Phil. I think all were easily inside 7 hrs for the century, I comleted 107miles from leaving home to returning in 6hrs 45mins. Lovely weather & nice route. Oh & Ankerdine on the way back was a nice touch....

It must be said, that was one of the best rides I can remember. Many thanks Phil for a most excellent route and to one and all for top notch company.
Cracking pace, dog tired by Dayhouse...

So I presume Ankerdine is classed as a mountain if it doesn't qualify as a hill 😬

Myself and Simon bumped into the intro ride today (fortunately not literally ) good turnout. Surprised to see that since Cuddles has left BMC their team members now reduced to Beacon :D
I didn't have time to remind new members of the opurtunity to get some coaching in group riding coming up, so if any are looking in check out the post or the Facebook page for more information.
Open to the more experienced of you as well. Never too late 8)

Thanks for the route planning, Phil. It was good to be riding with the group again after a significant absence (even if it was only for the easy half of the ride). Nice to chat to a few people I haven't caught up with recently, and to meet a couple of new faces. Very considerate of the new faces to assume the same name as well, so that those of us whose memories are deteriorating don't have to make too much mental effort.

I have a hunch that at least one other name may be missing, because there seem to be fewer names that are new to me than faces that were new to me.

Raj, glad you enjoyed it and hope you found the way home from Woodlands road without issue. Apologies for the run not going as smoothly as it could have done due to 2 of us having an unscheduled diversion and Marks tactical (sorry unfortunate) visit from the f!@t fairy.
There are no club runs this Sunday due to the Cotswold audaxes but hope to see you again soon. If you fancy a completely different ride, the c run on the 21st will have a little bit more climbing

Mark, thanks for leading and I've learnt and experienced a few more lanes (not all planned!) aswell
