A: Kenilworth - Andrew Clayton
B: Pershore - Neil Orchard
C:
100 miles in as long as it takes - Steve Smith (8.15 start)

If anybody wishes to take a standard distance C run that will be perfectly acceptable

Here's the route for the "100 mile in as long as it takes" ride. Same route and format as last year. Depart Black Horse at 08:15, pass through Tardebigge approx 08:50, leisurely stops at Vale Golf Club and Wellesbourne Airfield plus a quick ice cream stop in between at Honeybourne. Finishing with a pint at the Coach & Horses Weatheroak.

B run to pershore is just over 3000ft of climbing from the bh and cafe stop is coffee#1 on the high street so bring a lock if you have 1, hopefully the rain will hold off.

Blimey, that is an achievement for a club run to Pershore! I'm intrigued by all the climbing.

1% ascent/distance is normal for a 'flat' club run e.g. 1000m in 100km

Cheers Neil for a good B run - if a little soggy just out of Pershore! Audax hotel came in useful :) Spokes have held up OK - thanks to George for tightening them for me. A trip to the LBS is on the cards...

Beacon A run Kenilworth

Post by andrew clayton » 12 Jul 2015 14:47

Today's A run went without incident apart from the sudden torrential downpour timed perfectly to clobber us about a mile from the cafe stop. Cherry Tree Cafe in Kenilworth continues to provide excellent food at cheap prices (I haven't seen so many full english breakfasts on a club run before!)
Anyway...today's rider list is as follows..
Ian Taylor
Keith Adcock
Andrew Hornsby
Laurence Cooley
Omar Hussein
Lee Marrow
Matt Regan
James Tait
Toby Draper
Gareth Cadd
Andrew Clayton
Thanks to everyone for coming along and providing chat and occasional shelter from the wind.

The B Run to pershore was a little 'damp' at times especially coming out of pershore! Memorable conversation of the day was Paul Johnson's utter surprise that neglegee's are so uncommon now? (you'll need to ask him) coffee#1provided great food and coffee as usual, special thanks to George lazenby for his mechanical skills. Thanks to everyone for the great company. Riders were
George lazenby
Phil gameson
Ryan stait
Richard leaper
Paul Johnson
Alistair Hey
Gary Mac
Alan weaver (half way)
Phil Richards (met us at the cafe)
Neil Orchard (leading)

Well done everyone on the 100 mile ride to the pub, great group. Thanks to everyone who took turns on the front especially Colin, Andy and Mark. A few minor mechanical hiccups along the way but no injuries or bad language this year and we managed to end up at the best pub ;-)

Thanks for a great ride Steve.

My previous long rides were 60 miles, so I wondered how I'd cope with 100 miles. The excellent route with no nasty hills and perfect pace made it a great ride & I can still walk!

Great ride today Steve, cheers for that. Going back up Weatheroak hill after a pint of shandy not one of my wiser moves though. Already looking forward to the next one.

Great ride Steve thanks for organising it and to you and occasionally Andy for leading. Coach and Horses well worth the extra climb up Weatheroak! My abiding memory is of the riders drying wet socks on hot tarmac and leaving foot prints while Paul fixed his flat!

Thanks everyone for a great ride yesterday.

Sorry to report some of the group caught cowering under a tree during the downpour, while a group of 40 ladies on a charity ride rode past.

Steve, huge thanks for yesterday, cracking ride and to everyone else for the company.
I was hoping that the 100 miles would be no great problem (and it was remarkably uneventful in comparison to my woes last year) and my biggest concern was Weatheroak Hill.....right on both accounts there..... and glad I stuck to only the 1 pint as I fear I may have "revisted them" if I had stayed for a cheeky second.

Thanks Steve, Andy and everyone else on the ride. A great day out despite being out of my comfort zone on occasions. When we got to the pub I couldn't even get off the bike, had to lie it down and Paul was on hand to help me step out of it. However, after a beer and a little walk up Weatheroak was able to ride home at a reasonable pace. 105 miles and a 12.6 average so quite happy with that. I will have to think long and hard about next year, but who knows. Thanks again everyone.
There is not a hill that is to steep to walk up.
