Club runs - 31st January

Another good day for club runs last week with 39 riders over the three rides, with all three routes providing plenty of early season hills. If the comments on strava are anything to go by, the leaders are none too popular at present.

Anyway, this week's flatter runs are...

A: Upton - Ian Taylor
B: Chipping Campden - Paul Johnson
c: Alcester - George Barker.

Sorry, changed my mind again. Sunday is going to be damp, so the club run will be to Upton and not Tewkesbury.

Here is the route for Sunday's C run:
http://tinyurl.com/zmbz8dr

We'll be going anticlockwise, meaning that the outward is a little longer than the return. However, with the general trend being downhill out and uphill back, the two legs should be of roughly equal duration. I anticipate being back at the Black Horse shortly before 2pm (mechanicals etc permitting). I will endeavour to set as even a pace as possible without uphill surges or associated recovery periods. I'd be grateful if people could help me out with communication from down the line if the pace is unsuitable for anyone, and by keeping the group compact and orderly.

If there are a lot of us, we may divide across two cafés (there are several in the High Street).

Hmmm flatter run(remember Phil said that not me)!!!
The B run will be about 67 miles bring a bike lock if you have one, may change destination depending on weather.

I will have to pull-out of leading this Sunday's club run. Having contracted a dragging and lingering cold virus, I am not healthy enough to ride. I may see you at the cafe.

For any volunteer, here are the routes I was considering:

The challenging option: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/11928094

Easier option: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/11979014

I'm happy to stand in and lead the A run, same destination. Phil, which cafe were you intending to use?

You have a choice of two; The Secret Mess which is the one opposite the 'Pepper Pot', or the Marina Cafe on the western bank. The Secret Mess is the cafe used on recent runs, and the best in my opinion. It is good idea to take 'cafe locks'.

In lieu of cycling, I will probably join you there. We hope to drive round the Sunrise and Snowdrop Express route to check for problems.

Ok, Secret Mess it is then, bring your cafe locks folks. And your wet weather gear if the forecast is to be believed...

Ryan Stait

A new venue for club runs we went to camden coffee company just off the high street http://www.campdencoffeecompany.co.uk/ food was nice and fairly cheap for the cotswolds.

Today's A run:

Ian Taylor (L)
Matt Regan
Phil Richards
Chris Ashford
Nick Wooley
Ranulph Fiennes
Keith Adcock

A nagging head wind and a longer than usual route out meant we were a fairly bedraggled bunch at the cafe, but happily the slow service allowed us to dry out for a tailwind assisted route home. We were joined at the cafe by Phil Whiteman but as he admitted to using motorised assistance he doesn't get a club run point!

Tough conditions, a slightly late start (my fault, sorry), a handful of short but cumulatively significant road stops and an absolute eternity waiting to get served at OrangeMables resulted in today's C run making a somewhat tardy return to Northfield. It was grimly satisfying to overcome the elements, though, and I enjoyed the opportunity to chat to a few people whom I don't get a chance to see as often as I'd like. Thanks everyone for coming along.

The southern section of the C run consisted of:
George Barker (L)
Mark Russell
John Deeley
Graham Muth
Joe Warwood
Leonie Balter
Ryan Evanson
Helen Jamieson
Andy Wrightson
Simon Turner
