Club runs - 29th May

Post by WorcsPhil » 23 May 2016 09:28

Some numbers...there were 65 posts to last week's club run post (a new record), and there were 45 riders out this weekend for the three rides, yet there were only 4 new posts volunteering to lead a ride. I repeat that if we can get new leaders offering different sorts of rides, we will have a vibrant club run scene with something for everyone most weeks...so take a leaf out of Jess's book and volunteer to lead by posting to this thread below, and the July-Sept thread that will appear next week.
http://www.beaconrcc.org.uk/message_boa ... php?t=7612

Anyway, it was a tremendous turn out at the weekend, especially on Paul's B-run, and my offer stands...any photographic evidence of someone hugging Mr Johnson wins a crème egg from the club run sec.

This week, it is the date for the Beacon's Brecon Extraordinary 300km club run, and any last minute changes, please let Philip Whiteman know, however, alternative club runs of a more traditional distance are encouraged...current arrangements below.

A: Warwick - Laurence Cooley
B: Wyre Forest Cafe - Phil Gameson
C: Arley - Andy Terry

Beacon's Brecon Extraordinary 300km Club run
A: Monstrous distance outside guidelines - Philip Whiteman
B: Monstrous distance outside guidelines - Paul Johnson

The C run this week will start at 9.15 from the Black Horse and we should be back by 2pm.

I'd be very happy to lead a C run a little later in the year, but as anyone who's seen my recent Strava tracks can attest, I may need to do some work on my routes and the planning thereof!! I saw that there was talk of a club run database being setup with GPX or plain old written routes, armed with a few of them I'd be happy to lead.

Only been on a couple myself in the last 25 years or so though, so I'd rather get back into the swing of it first.

And I'll be there on Sunday Andy, thanks for volunteering to lead this weeks run.

Will it be within the guidelines? 😜

There's a couple of pages of routes here: http://www.beaconrcc.org.uk/message_boa ... php?t=5342. Some of the links are broken now, but many of them still work.

B Run

Post by PhilG » 27 May 2016 16:16

I am willing to lead the B run.

I don't think the B run has been to Wyre Forest Visitor Centre for a while.

The route (about 55 miles) is pretty hilly on the way out, less so on the way back. There is one section of poor road, but taken steadily should be OK for all - and it comes just before the steepest climb of the day.

The route will be http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Be ... yre-Forest or something pretty similar. [The plotted route has an unnecessary trip along the dual carriageway and back between Day House Bank and Belbroughton.]

I am guessing that there won't be huge numbers turning up at 9:15 due to the 300Km event. If there are only a few people then I am willing to lead anywhere else that I have route for (in particular Warwick, Charlecote and Croome Park) if everyone wants a flatter route.

Weather forecast looks good and this week's C run will be a nice steady Bank Holiday weekend style 75km to Arley Arboretum. Quite hilly though - going out via Romsley, Clent, Kinver, and the other Romsley, returning through Shatterford and Wolverley.

An understandably small turnout at the Black Horse for the standard club runs today with most of the regulars otherwise engaged, so we decided to combine the A and the B runs for the outbound trip to Warwick, splitting into A and B pace groups for the ride home. Thanks for the company to:

Laurence Cooley (L)
Phil Gameson (L)
Alan Weaver
Ian Simpson
Chris Thompson

Meeting us at the café:
Wally Lowe
Sue Pemberton

The A route was 88 km, completed at around 27 km/h. Nice weather for it, save for the wind, and back in time for the final stage of the Giro...which is currently being played on a clay court in Paris, it seems.
