Club runs - 5th June (plus Intro ride)

Post by WorcsPhil » 30 May 2016 10:42

Back to normal length club runs this coming week with reflections on the 300km Club run last Sunday on the separate thread. This weeks' rides are:

A: Evesham - James Tate
B: Charlecote - Si Walker
C: Bewdley (SVR café) - Pete Marshall

Intro Ride: Earlswood - Gary Macintosh

This is an ideal week for b-riders to join James on the A-ride, and some c-riders to join Si on the B-ride...a perfect antidote to clubrungate of two weeks ago!

DON'T FORGET THAT THERE IS ALSO AN INTRO RIDE THIS SUNDAY, led by Gary Macintosh to the Stables café in Earlswood. A support rider would be helpful, please post here if you want to volunteer. In the summer, these rides are popular, so be good if you can support this.

I will do the C ride.
SVR cafe in Bewdley. Lumpy.
http://www.gpsies.com/map.do?fileId=wpppplqnmaddyduz
It will be at the lowest end of the pace, if not slower as it is reasonably lumpy.
Shortened if poor weather.
And if you download and use the gps file, remember I often change on a whim

B ride Sunday 5th June.
The destination has been changed to Charlecote at 55.5 miles as I note that A/B ride went there last week.
This will not be fast ride, I estimate it will be at a pace of between 14-15 mph. The course has a few lumps and bumps but is not particularly hilly.
C riders who would like a slightly faster pace might consider joining this ride.

Route for the A will be as follows, a flatish run, but probably done at a higher pace.....only 110km.

I have notified the cafe at Charlecote, but for information the the 'Bakehouse' which many of you will know, has lost its franchise at the garden store and so the cafe is now operated by the garden centre. As far as food and drink are concerned it is similar but the phone number for the Bakehouse is now unobtainable.

Today's A run to Evesham was fast and flat(ish) as we avoided the lenches and found some uber smooth tarmac. Thx to all for the top banter and especially Alistair for helping pull on the front on the way home.

Today's A warriors were:

James Tate (L)
Alistair Hey
Philip Whitman
Ian Simpson
Ben Walmsley
Craig Walmsley
Phil Richards
Nathan Cardon

We did an 18mph avg and covered roughly 1200m of ascent.....

Club run

Post by bobg » 05 Jun 2016 21:15

As I now find club runs a bit to much these days, I did my own thing and went to Defford. A very good venue for Beacon club runs by the way. Out via Droitwich, and back via Bradley Green. 58 miles and 11.8 average. Nothing to shout about but I was happy with that. On the way home I was thinking about the number of riders, I would guess about 75% that totally ignored me even though I always wave or speak. Then a few miles from Tardebigge Ruth Eyles caught me and it was nice to have a little chat before going our separate ways. A proper club cyclist.
There is not a hill that is to steep to walk up.

Being a traditionalist by instinct myself I try and wave and speak to everyone on a bike I see, although these days the numbers out on a Sunny Sunday can make this hard work. I would say I get a response from the vast majority, particularly from those in club colours rather than replica jerseys, even a few mountain bikers waved back today.
My pet hate is riders who pass without a warning or a word which does seem to happen a lot on sportives rather than when out generally riding.
I do note that round posh areas like Solihull where I live these days fewer riders wave back than when out around the Western hillier areas. I just assume posh people find waving beneath them, which is suprising when you think that the poshest people in the country do that for a living. 😊

I'm very disappointed in you young Bob, letting Ruth catch you up. I think a strict training regime is called for. Now who do we know in the club who is a good coach? Hey Ruth...

Dave, I am on a strict training regime at the moment. Based on interval training, ok it may not be perfect and probably needs a bit of tweaking. What seems to work for me is approx. 1 mile hard (usually down hill) followed by 10 miles recovery. When Ruth caught me it was of course during that recovery segment. However I did manage to ride past the little café at Ditchford Bank without stopping to take on more fuel, so something must be working!
