Club runs - 19th June

Post by WorcsPhil » 13 Jun 2016 08:40

Well, I was hopeful of a new record turnout of riders this week, given the alternative rides on offer, but the rain and generally poor forecast scuppered those plans, with the only dry ride ironically in North Wales (the wettest part of the British Isles!). Respect to James, Alistair and Claire for their trip to the hills of Snowdonia, it looked a great route. James is potentially offering another trip later this summer (details on the Beacon facebook page), so please support him in his efforts.

Anyway, we still had 25 riders out, and the dry start at the Black Horse at 08:15 lasted all the way until the traffic lights at Longbridge, when the rain set in for the trip south to Tewkesbury.

This week's rides are:

A: Broadway Tower - Ian Taylor
B: Kineton- Paul Johnson
C: Hiller's Dave Cole

My usual call here...there are plenty of c-riders who could lead, so why not have a go, and similarly the thread to lead rides and select destinations for rides in July, August and September is also on this message board. There are just some regulars signed up to lead at present, why not stick your name down and live the dream.

Hi, sorry but due to a pulled muscle I'm not going to be able to lead this Sunday. Would appreciate if someone could step in to lead this week & I'll volunteer to lead a ride when I'm better.

I can step in on Sunday Martin. Will probably go usual route of out through Ullenhall, Bidford, Honeybourne and Saintbury Hill, returning through Mickleton and Wooten Wawen. It'll be a steady pace, no surging, no-one left behind, plenty of surreal and random conversation. Roughly 72 miles round trip, should be getting back around 2.00pm I reckon.

Weather looks ok currently, who knows we may even get to sit outside at the cafe...

Many thanks Ian. No need to stick with Broadway Tower yourself though, I only chose it because can't remember going there recently.

Today's A run to Broadway Tower was a text book Beacon RCC club run. By which I mean it was brilliantly led, on a superb route and in excellent conditions. The only downside was the ill disciplined rabble actually riding it. Maintaining cheerful chatter and light hearted 'banter' in the face of my officious and pedantic chiding were:

Matt Reagan
Keith Adcock
John Hitchcock
Ben Walmsley
Steve Philpott
Ian Simpson
Matt Hale
Mark Hobson

Never mind debating the length and speed of club runs, or the alleged lack of volunteers. Never in all my days have I come across such an unruly shower on a club run. There were too many instances of loud laughter, ribald conversation and pointing out of London Underground tube trains to be mentioning here, but mark my words, I will be compiling a report for the club run secretary's attention.

Thanks for the heads-up, Ian. I shall, of course be soundly thrashing all the miscreants...laughter on a club run?...good grief.

Thanks to Ian for leading with a big stick ! And to all for the company.
2 points
1 the soup of the moment was the same as the soup of the moment, last time I dined there , was it the same moment ? Delicious either way

2 would it have killed them to fit an elevator up to the cafe

It's quality that counts Dave, not quantity.
