Club Runs - 5th March

Post by WorcsPhil » 27 Feb 2017 08:51

...and the winner is La La Land...no, hang on.

The real winner is of course Nick Shenton who is leading the B-run this Sunday...why not follow the example of the pied piper of Iverley on the B or volunteer to lead the A or C run before a spate of leaders in the next few weeks renders this impossible.

Anyway, other winners were the Ocean's Eleven who turned up on free-form Sunday, a few of whom had ridden the Snowdrop/Sunrise the day before. Chapeau!

This week's rides are:

A: Volunteer required
B: Stratford - Nick Shenton
C: Cobhouse Fisheries - Simon Turner

Intro Ride: Led by Andy Terry to Akambas in Solihull, support rider needed.

Obviously, there is an Intro ride this coming Sunday. If you're new to cycling and want to see what riding in a group is like, all within a friendly, supportive atmosphere, why not come along to Andy Terry's Intro ride. Meet at 9am at the Black Horse in Northfield and ask for Andy, the ride will actually leave at 09:15.

I'll lead the C run destination to be decided but likely candidate is Cob House Fisheries.

There is also an unofficial club run to cannock's chase this weekend for a bit of MTB/CX offroad. Meet up is 9am at the Birches Valley cafe:

https://www.forestry.gov.uk/forestry/INFD-8JHHAH

It's going to be an easy social run around the forest trails with a nice bacon buttie afterwards. You will need a handful of change for the car park and pls be aware that cafe locks are strongly advised as thefts from the car park are not unknown.

There is no classification for this ride as it will be a no drop ride no matter the speed of the group.

Just got the connection - Strade Bianche and Stratford Greenway. If it's wet, be prepared to get covered in the white stuff.

It's dark, cold and raining heavily now, and forecast to linger through the morning. Looks like it's not going to be a pleasant experience for anyone, so I'm going to call off today's intro ride. Apologies to anyone who was hoping to coming out this morning.

Can anyone reading this please pass the message on.

Only myself and Helen Jamieson made it to cannock chase today for the offroad unofficial run.

Not a great start as it was chucking it down and snowing at points and 1c to boot. Still we got going and warmed up pretty fast. Quite a short outing at 1hr15, but great fun...Lots of strange looks from them MTB types as I sped round on my CX bike as well as lots of remarks.."you must be mad to do it on that!" Thankfully no off's this time as the extra bit of mud made for more traction strangely.

Would it be cheeky to ask for club run points as it was advertised well in advance and was open to all?

I don't think you're being cheeky James. I mean we were on bikes, it started *just* outside Birmingham, and there was a cafe stop! All criteria for club runs. In fact, I think we deserve double points for being triple hard and starting off in the snow!!

But then again I might be slightly biased on this issue?!

Another utterly foul day out on the bike.

On arriving at the Black Horse this morning in a warm, dry car, part of me was hoping no one would be stupid enough to turn up so I could make a hasty retreat home again.

How wrong could I be....

It was decided initially that the original B Run route to Stratford be abandoned in favour of a none stop route. Luckily the rain subsided and a route to a little cafe in Bishampton.

Today's hardy souls on the B Run were:

Nick Shenton (Leading)
Paul Johnson (Chief Navigator)
Phil Elwell
Andy Deere
Andy Wrightson
Phil Gameson
Ryan Evanson

Thanks to everyone for an enjoyable ride given the conditions.

On today's drier than forecast C run to Alcester were the magnificent 7 who became the famous 5 when Dave and Lyn peeled off at Radford heading for an alternative destination

Simon Turner L
Neil Evanson
Mark McConkey
Mark Gardner
Simon Woodward
Dave Cox
Lyn Hughes (first club run)

Cheers for a great day and for not moaning when I got lost

Hi it is Glynn Hughes. We went to the new Cyclists and Walkers Cafe in Grafton Flyford. Community Cafe by the Church. Quite roomy and friendly people usual breakfast baps, good tea cakes and cake. Worked out well for us and a sunny ride sure that Glynn a triathlete will be out again.
