Club Runs - 4th June

Post by WorcsPhil » 29 May 2017 11:10

[*]Well, what a Beacon club run that was...the annual 300kms club run came and went with 18 riders all completing the rides, and of course a good proportion of them doing endless laps of the chip shop (Toby Draper quote) to turn it into. 200mile ride, and on a fine day, it was 'enjoyed' by all. Here's to next year, but if this has whetted your appetite for long rides, see the final call for the 500kms club run on the other thread.

Also, thanks to John Hitchcock/Barry Evans and Dave Cox for stepping up and leading the B and C run...thanks all.

Back to more normal length club runs this weekend, and we have a full set of leaders - come along and support club runs!

INTRO RIDE THIS SUNDAY...Come along if you're new to cycling and want to see what all this group riding is about.

Anyway, this week's rides are:

A: Stratford - Nick Shenton
B: Wyre Forest Visitor Centre - Phil Gameson
C: Blooms Garden Centre - Dave Cole

INTRO RIDE: possibly Earlswood with Dave Cox leading, but support rider would be greAt lease

Guys,

Due to some family issues I'm going to have to bow out on leading Sunday's ride. Nick Shenton has agreed to stand in for me, so he will decide to go to Draycote or another destination...

Is there likely to be an intro ride on Sunday?

We really do need a June Intro Ride this Sunday - this is what brings new members and generates the B and A riders of the future. If no one else steps up I'll lead one and be there at 9.00 to meet any new riders who want to find out about the Beacon - probably go to Earlswood.

I'll lead the B run to the Wyre Forest Visitor Centre.

I can' find a copy of the route I use on the web at the moment, but the route is just under 55 miles and goes out via Bewdley and back via Stourport.
There are a lot of hills on the way out, and is flatter on the way back.
[I'll post the route if I manage to find the link.]

This Sunday's A Run destination is to be changed to the Railway Carriage cafe in Stratford. 100km route that can be extended on the way back.

Normal 9:15 start time

The route will be http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Be ... yre-Forest - my usual one to the Wyre Forest Visitor Centre.
[The plotted route has an unnecessary trip along the dual carriageway and back between Day House Bank and Belbroughton.]

Intro Ride to Earlswood

Dave Cox Leader
Mel Kavanagh
Will Woodhouse
Derek Reynolds
Mike Balenski
Rob Parker

30 miles and we sat out the rain shower in the cafe! Good to meet Will and Mel on their first Beacon Club Run - hope they will both be back for a C run soon. Thanks to Derek, Mike and Rob for support.

Saw Oscar Hopkins coming up Icknield St on his eBike. Those Romans need to come back and do some repairs!!

The B ride to the Wyre Forest Visitor Centre was made by a small but select group:
Phil Gameson (leader)
Vincent Bulso
Matthew Hale

We made it to the café with only a slight bit of drizzle, but it still felt cold when setting off on the way back. We made it as far as Belbroughton before there was a short shower, then it started raining harder from just before Dayhouse Bank.

The outward leg is quite hard work at the best of times - add to that a head wind and it is not too surprising we actually came back a bit quicker than we went out. Hopefully the pace (brisk) suited everyone.

Leonie Balter
Paul Johnson
Phil Elwell
Ryan Evanson

Ben Walmsley

Apologies if I've missed anyone off

Today's club run riders will be pleased to learn that today's miles will help their progression to riding the Kidderminster Killer and Clee to Heaven audaxes. If you have not already entered then please do not forget.
