Club runs - 18th June

24 riders out at the weekend, evenly split between Paul Johnson's A/B ride to Much Wenlock and Phil Gameson's C-ride to Charlecote. Is this the same Paul Johnson who's name appears as an entrant to the Kidderminster Killer? The same Paul who said..."if you ever see me riding the Kidderminster Killer, you have my permission to thrash me with birch twigs?". Perhaps not.

Thanks to both leaders, anyway.

This week, we have a B-ride leader but no A or C ride leaders yet, so a pleasing mirror image from the norm...Andy's ride will be at strictly B-ride place, so I know that a lot of A-riders like riding together but be good if we could also have an A-ride so that faster C-riders can ride the B-ride in full confidence that it won't be too fast. This week's rides are:

A: Wellesbourne - Chris Ashford (08:15 start...perfect to get back to your Father's Day lunches, whichever gender you are!)
B: Flyford Flavell - Andy Wrightson
C: Bishampton - Dave Cole

Hello laurie it will be going over the lenches, as always people climb at there own speed so dont worry we will quite happily wait at the top of any hills if people fall behind

A Run (08:15 Start) - Wellesbourne
Hi Phil, I can take the A run to Wellesbourne on Sunday morning. It will be a 08:15 start as I need to be back a bit earlier but won't be a longer route. 107k, pretty flat. Its going to be a warm one on Sunday so lets make the most of the weather and get those summer bikes out.

Key indicators that its a hot Beacon run:
1) Distinct lack of arm warmers
2) No winter bikes or mud guards
3) Temperatures at mid teens at 08:15
4) Cafe stop water bottle refill takes longer than ordering food
5) Cafe stop orders are more pastéis de nata (Matt Clegg) and Salmon and Cucumber Bagels (Neil Orchard) iced Vimto (pretty much everyone else) than bacon baguettes
6) Alistair Hey stating "its hot" every 10-15minutes, and reminding everyone to keep drinking!

A "warm" ride out to Wellesbourne. No major incidents (except Matt's multiple bee stings at the cafe).

Present:
Chris Ashford (L)
Adam Green
Neil Orchard
Martin McGowan
Matt Regan
Matt Clegg
Alistair Hey
Phil Gameson
Ian Simpson
Alberto Recchioni

Thanks for the ride out gents, hopefully you are all back and "rehydrating" in your gardens!

Sorry if I did not say bye to everyone :O

Re B/C runs. John and I went out on B and back on C. Both runs were at completely appropriate pace I thought. C run a delight as we rambled back at a very conversation friendly rate. Cheers to Andy and Dave as leaders.
Re Jemal. Poor lad had either the knock or a touch of sunstroke. After leaving you we only went about 500m before he couldn't really go on. We went to the nearby Broad Acres fisheries for emergency fluid and food. Jemal decided that the best move would be to get a taxi. I waited for the cab to arrive before leaving for home. It appears that he had not really done any cycling before and thought that he would buy a bike and go on the club run. I gave much needed advice re building himself up before his next attempt. Clearly a bright intelligent young man who has realised that enthusiasm alone will only take you so far, and that was just over halfway!
