Club runs - 9th July

28 riders out at the weekend, on what was a perfect day for cycling...Thanks to me, Paul Johnson and Dave Cole for leading, and yes, we are all experienced leaders, but it's now time for others to volunteer to compliment the regulars. Apart from Paul, we have no further club run leader for weeks lined up on the July/August/September thread, so let's remedy that please. Look in your diaries, and if you're not on holiday, then volunteer to lead one ride in this period!

A big shout out for the Hughes' this week. With Anne being crowned European Masters short-course Triathlon champion last week, and Dave Masters track champion this week, they really are an example to us all...successful, super-fit, they drive a beautiful open top Morgan, and they are really nice people also...they make you sick, don't they! :D Only joking, huge congratulations to them both!

Back to club runs - we have an average of 28 riders out every week this year, compared to only 25-26 in previous years so this is a great part of being in the Beacon, and is clearly popular, but we get even more when we have pre-determined leaders...

Go on, you know it makes sense. I'll start if off by putting my name down for a week in August. I can't lead this week as I'm off riding a big, commercial closed roads sportive in south Wales, but let's not start that old chestnut

This week's rides are, not surprisingly given my rant...

A: Clows Top - Chris Ashford (08:15 START)
B: Ellendon Farm shop - Andy Wrightson
C: Arley Arboretum - Pete Norman

Go on then - I'll lead a C run on Sunday. I'll probably be lazy and lead to leamington again coz i know I've got that route on my garmin and also it's relatively flat. It will be at a steady C run pace as last Sunday was the first long ride I've done in a while...

Thanks, Helen...a fine example to all.

One slot down, 37 to go...keep 'em coming, especially if you're just about to volunteer for the first time.

...and Vince - get your name down!!!

Phil

A-Ride (Clow's Top Stingers) - 08:15 Start

I will lead Phils "Clows Top Stingers" ride with an 08:15 start. It is a short but hilly route. Hopefully the "mountain goats" among you will wait for me at the top of the climbs!
Probably an ideal opportunity for anyone else also looking to give the legs a last tester before the challenge of the KK in two weeks time.

Aaaaargh! Really sorry but I can no longer lead the C run tomorrow. Hopefully someone will step in, and I promise I'll find a Sunday later in the summer when I can lead.

Chris, I'll try and hang on to the back of the A. I'll meet you at c. 0835 at Romsley Green when you're en route to St Kenelms.
Where will we eat bacon butties and drink macchiato?
Be gentle on me; I''ve been in the lowlands with a tail wind for 4 weeks!

Hilly morning ride out with several new faces, as well as some lesser seen Beacon riders keen to the most of the good weather.
Great work from all, and lots of care taken that no one was left behind on the climbs. Only one chain off and a **flat** to report, so good progress made despite the hills. Thanks Phil for letting me steal the route.

Riders present:
Chris Ashford (l)
Paul Warner
Jon Williams
Jamie Dennis
Stuart White
Jessica Rhodes Jones
Barry Evans
Peter Sagan
Neil Orchard
James Graymer
Vince Tennant

Andy, Thanks for leading the B run at such short notice. I lost you when you turned right and Dave Hughes carried straight on. I could see Dave in the distance and eventually caught up with him where he explained he was going elsewhere. He very kindly sorted me out with directions before sending me on my merry way.

Thanks Andy (and Phil) for A ride. Just loved those multiple 20+ %ers

The lanes between Kniver and Arley (through Romsley) were particularly tricky and needed great care on the descents.
