Club runs - 24th September
Posted: 18 Sep 2017 16:17
First of all, hearty congratulations to David McCann for becoming the men's Beacon Hill climb champion and Jess Rhodes-Jones for becoming the women's champion on Sunday up muddy Winwood Heath Road, with a firm nod of respect to Barry Evans who went out on Saturday and swept sections of the road with a broom like a demented curling assistant. Well done to all organisers, riders and watchers!
Club runs are back this weekend, but as many are aware, this Sunday is also the date of the closed-roads Velo Birmingham event. As many of the closed roads are the ones we regularly use, volunteers to lead are advised to dream up routes heading slightly east.
Of course, there has been a mixed reaction to this event, but there are many Beacon riders riding and probably many Beacon riders inconvenienced but as an esteemed Beacon member said this week, no type of ride trumps anything else, it's the variety of riding that makes our hobby so widely appealing. Anyway, whatever you're doing - enjoy...and why not lead a Beacon ride to the mysterious east?
This week's rides are:
A: Warwick - Nick Shenton
B: Volunteer required
C: Lavender Hall Fisheries - Matt Hale
