Club runs - 31st December

I hope you all had a good Christmas, with Wiggle vouchers of such eye-wateringly high value, you’ve spent today scouring the internet for high value wheels, frames and groupsets. I got a set of brake blocks, so I thank Santa for his foresight.

Anyway, it’s New Year’s Eve this Sunday but club runs will still go ahead...it may be another good week for a Beacon Burst, so why not volunteer to lead one?

If you need a few miles for the Strave Festive 500, or your tastes are more simple in that you just want to ride with friends before the eggnog, then come along for the last ride of the year.

This week’s rides are

A: Volunteer required
B: Kenilworth - Phil Gameson
C: Evesham - John Hitchcock

I'll lead a A/B run to Cobhouse Fisheries about 60 miles.

I am willing to lead a B run to Kenilworth -

This may not display the map correctly, but you should be able to download the GPX file.
55 miles, about 1000m climbing, so not too many hills.
This route takes us to the café by the castle, but I think we will probably head for the Cherry Tree Café, 83 Albion Street, CV8 2FY.

Could possible take the C run to Evesham, however it will be one way, so someone will need to take the run back?

The ride to Kenilworth was more of an A/B ride than a B ride, with almost all of the 12 riders having done A rides in the past.
The ride out was fairly uneventful despite the large amount of water and debris on the road.
However, the Cherry Tree Café was closed, so we then headed into the centre of Kenilworth and eventually found a suitable café that was open - a possible café for the future?
On the way back the route I had downloaded from the club runs "database" proved less than ideal for the conditions, and we diverted twice. And then we had a closed road too!
Despite all this we still got back to the Black Horse for about 1:30pm.
Riders were:
Phil Gameson (Leader)
Neil Orchard
Alan Weaver
Ian Taylor
Andy Wrightston
John Williams
Phil Richards
Matt Regan
Rob Wade
Andy McGrath
Chris Ashford
Neil Lynch

An ad hoc C ride to Evesham, with John Hitchcock leading outward and Si Walker leading on the return leg, John diverting off home shortly after the cafe. Roads were generally filthy and some localised flooding in parts. The worst bit though was that there was no bread pudding left at the cafe!!!

Riders were as follows;
John Hitchcock (Leading outward)
Si Walker (Leading return)
Adrian McHugh
Chris Ankcorn (On Fixed)
Will Woodhouse
Sarah Dowden
Simon Woodward
Dave Little
George Barker (met at the cafe).

Happy New Year to all Beacon riders and friends. SW

Thanks for leading today Phil, great navigational skills as well with all the new ponds everywhere! Cafe was a good find, good food, quick service, Mr Weaver thoroughly enjoyed himself.
Happy new year to everyone!

Thanks for everyone’s patience today, as I made slow and hard work of that C ride, clearly my fitness has taken a step backwards since the stroke. Sorry for slowing you all down. Special mention to Ade who doubled back and saw me safely back to Northfield.
