Club runs - 21st January

Mornin' all, a few points this week...

Firstly, can I please have names of riders on the impromptu B-ride to Wyre Forest and C-ride to Akamba...Andy? Carolyn?...the points prize is intensely followed by all members ;;-) so be good to keep up to date

Secondly, could all riders on club runs remember that these are club runs, so if there are people off the back, then please let the leader know, by shouting down the line...leaders don't have eyes everywhere, so be good if this is followed...not only did I come over all unnecessary for a short time yesterday, but others also disappeared off runs without warning.

Lastly, last year, we managed to persuade a regular group of faster B riders to step up the A-ride, but this has left a hole in regular B-ride leaders, such that we have merged A/B rides a number of times recently...I was hoping that faster C-riders would also step up to lead B-rides but this is proving slow to get off the mark...so why not think along these lines, and follow the wonderful example given by Simon Woodward this week...

Anyway, this week's rides are:

A: Leamington Spa - Nick Shenton
B: Wyre Forest - Simon Woodward
C: Volunteer required

This weeks A Run will be to a destination we've neglected for a while, Leamington Spa.

Having Googled Alfonso's it would appear that its now called Simon's Place. The fry up looks huge so I think we should give it a go.

I haven't worked out the route yet but it will be around 100k BH to BH. Route details to follow.

Apologies Phil I had shouted up the group and we stopped at the junction of School Road at Hanbury. I assumed you were behind and were on your way to us. Hope you feel better soon.

The B run will be a 55 mile route to Wyre Forest with the Cafe at 30 miles. The route is a bit lumpy so the pace will be at the low end of B pace at around 14mph. It should be a perfect opportunity for any of the stronger C riders who wish to come along.

I reckon you were supposed to figure out the C run names from Carolyn's photo on Strava. :) Maybe give the zebra a point, too.

All being well this will be my 1st run with you guys. Riding 25 years but never been in a club.
I’ll be on a white specialised. :)

The weather forecast is looking truly foul for tomorrow morning so I’m proposing a non stop Beacon Burst if it hasn’t improved.

Not by the time you get home.

If the weather is poor, the B run may end up doing this shorter and less scenic route to Wyre Forest

I may well be joining you on Zwift if the latest weather report is anything to go by Chris.

Currently the weather is forecast for snow and 1oC from 5am through till 10am. I shall make the call first thing in the morning but it’s looking highly unlikely I will be taking the A Run.

I’m getting the impression my club rides are jinxed & I should give up until April!

A Run cancelled due to adverse weather conditions

Its started to sleet/snow where I am so I'm afraid I won't be taking the risk.

If you do venture out take care.

B ride is now cancelled
Everywhere is white over here. Snow is now sticking on my road which is gritted.
Sorry.

Well, having been led to believe that it would stay above freezing last night and that I could ride to Wyre Forest this morning in lovely just-above-freezing sleet, I woke to sub-zero temperatures and 2cm of settled snow on a totally untreated road. The snow plough came through five minutes ago, but it still doesn't look great and the lanes are presumably still covered.

The irony is that I've spent my entire life being largely undeterred by snow, continuing to ride on my ordinary winter road bike. Nowadays I have a bike with studded 34mm tyres and 30mm mudguard clearances... but fear I've reached too fragile an age to take any chances.

My knowledge of Latin could be engraved on the head of a pin with a pneumatic drill but one phrase which I have remembered for a long time and often quote is
