It's springummer! This is the period when the spring classics turn into the prime cycling months of May and June, so put away your salbutamol, no need for jiffy bags, it's all about social riding on club runs of such extraordinary diversity, it'll make your eyes well up with emotion. In this quarter, there may be 200kms rides, 400kms rides, circumcisions of Birmingham, lots of short rides to lovely cafes and hopefully a few awaydays to the moors of Staffordshire with the pied piper of Iverley himself, Mr Nick Shenton...so check you diaries, be inventive and get posting below. If it's your first time leading, you will receive massive acclaim, so don't be put-off, be great to hear from you. Old hands in this leadership lark are obviously also encouraged!

If you are able to lead a club run or two, please post the date and café destination on this thread, and I'll add you onto this diary....

Note: This purpose of this topic is compile the schedule of club runs. Discussion about individual rides, including rider lists, will be done in a separate thread - one for each Sunday, which I will post each Monday morning before the ride in question.

I have some dates for 2 alternative club rides/organised events

22nd April - April Fool Sportive - https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/april-fo ... 2361175416

20th May - Dougie Mac Llangollen ride - http://www.dmhospice.org.uk/eventold/do ... bike-ride/

Both rides are for charity and are great local events that both start and finish in North Staffordshire.

Advanced booking is recommended but not essential as entry can be paid for on the day.

I'm really interested in doing the circuit of Birmingham ride at a C pace. Can't yet commit to lead because not yet sure about family visits.

I'll lead a run on 10 June. Provisionally, it'll be a B run (roughly 26kph). However, that does depend on me first demonstrating to myself that I have regained the necessary strength and fitness. I'll confirm one way or the other a month in advance. If I have any lingering doubts about my ability to lead a B run, it'll be a C run.

In the following three-month block, I intend to lead another retro/C run, probably late August or September. Details in due course.

When the February Intro Ride couldn't go ahead, I said that I would try to lead an Intro Ride in one of the following months instead. However, ridiculous though it may sound, it turns out that I have conflicting plans on every one of the first Sundays of the month throughout the summer. So (unless something falls through) I'm not available to do an Intro Ride before autumn. Sorry!

New cafe (I think) I'll take a A run on. The 29/4, to The Den Cafe, Stanford Bridge. Route to follow but likely to be on the lumpy side considering the area.

I can now confirm that my run on 10 June will be a B run (approx 26kph, 100km +/- 10%). Destination TBC, but I feel inclined to investigate the possibility of using that place at Ilmington recently commended by Phil and Alan.

Nice address for the Ilmington Cafe...Grump Street

There could be a few grumpy people depending on whether you decide to tackle the climb up Campden Pitch or Larkstoke after the cafe :D

Haha, yes, I dare say you're right, Matt.

I'm far from certain that that's where we'll go, but I like the look of it and plan to check it out. However, I have no opportunity to go out there just yet, so the decision will be on the back burner for a while.

May 20th is the 97th Meriden Cyclists Memorial Service on the green. I'll lead a C Run at moderate pace leaving at 9.00 to give us plenty of time. There's cakes in the Village Hall afterwards or the option of just riding to Lavender Hall which is on the route.

Re Meriden run on 20th May. I've checked what we did last year and we need to LEAVE at 8.30 to be sure of arriving in time. More details later.

Phil i can no longer lead on the 3/6 so what i will do is move the 200km ride to Towcester from that date to 27/5 it makes more sense to do this on a bank holiday weekend and we will do the Leominster ride later in the summer. :D

Phil Whiteman is a bloody trouble-maker.

He has cunningly lured me into leading a B run to Ilmington by waxing lyrical about delicious coffee and wholesome food in order to distract my attention from how far it is.

It turns out that the shortest cycling-friendly route from the BH to Ilmington is about 52km. With just a little bit of variation between the outward and home routes, the total works out at 109km (68 miles). At textbook B run pace of 25-26kph (16mph), that means roughly 4 1/4 hours.

How do regular B-runners feel about that? Are you up for doing a little more than the standard distance? Or shall I scrap the Ilmington plan?

Weather forecast is quite good and the route isn't very hilly. Here is the provisional plan:
- 109km route Black Horse to Ilmington

This weeks A Run will be to Brewood in Staffordshire.

I’ll be taking this run at an easier A run pace, partly to save my legs for my trip to Italy and to give B run riders an opportunity to move up to an A run.

The route will be approx 72 miles BH to BH and will head out via Kinver, Wombourne & head back via Pattingham & Kinver.

If it’s nice on the way back there will be an option to stop somewhere for a pint too.

Normal 9:15 start time from Northfield.
