Club runs - 18th March

Another 20+ riders out on the 2 club runs. Thanks to Si Walker for leading the C-ride and to Alistair/Neil on the A-ride, and thanks for stepping in. Unfortunately there was a rider clipped by a wing mirror on the A-ride, so hope you're ok, Andy.

Can I appeal to the 30+ regular club riders to put their names down at least once on the April-June thread ...I know I call out for leaders most weeks, but if there was a concerted effort to populate this other thread then it's just becomes easier. We also get at least 50% more riders if there is a named leader. Go on, be proactive. Make me a happy bunny.

Anyway, this week's rides are as follows:

A: Volunteer required
B: Volunteer required
C: Destination TBC - Colin Groves

So good to have Colin stepping up nice and early to the plate (of bake beans probably) Never really understood the baseball? metaphor!

I'll certainly need a large plate of baked beans on Sunday Dave given my year to date mileage, 47. Impressive.

So the forecast isn't great for Sunday at the moment, BBC says light snow. My original intention was to go to Flyford Flavell, 49 miles, slightly longer out than back. If there's a risk of ice I'll swap that to a gritted route ride to Warwick which will be a similar distance - but that depends on how snowy it gets.

We'll see what happens.

Thanks Colin. I was at Aunty Ritas on Friday. They have had some problem with a large group of club cyclists (c20) who overwhelmed the cafe unannounced and then posted negative stuff on Trip Advisor. Given the size of a C group on a good day I wouldn't go there without giving them a phone call. Warwick is more resilient with a choice of cafes.

Went to aunty Rita's last Sunday with Pat & Ken, and although there seemed to only be 8 or 10 bikes there plus a few locals, could not get in.
So Sunday club runs will always be pot luck. But always worth giving them a try. Any problems then the Vale golf club is only 3 or 4 miles further on.

Thanks for the heads up on the Fyford café. I'll say Warwick then.

Auntea Rita's is great but you do need to reserve a table/tables and be sure to arrive at the agreed time.

And try to avoid reserving tables for 12 and turning up with >20. (As I did.)

I'm very fond of the place, but I don't think I will use it for a large club run again. Taking the weather forecast into account as well, Colin is wise to switch to Warwick.

I went to auntyritas last week and a club had turned the week before and had to be turned away cause of numbers and it was full already, intern they made some unkindand unwanted comments so now she's not to struck on cyclists just turning up, if indeed you do go phone to make sure first

Rather than wait until the morning I think it sensible to make an early call to cancel my run tomorrow. It's -3 C and snowing here in Bearwood which doesn't bode well for a safe ride.

Those on Zwift might like to do the Mad March Hare event starting at 8.25. Under the circumstances, maybe we can get club run points for it?
